Default Vista is a pain in the ass!

Trying to run a game on Vista. Got it running, open up the task manager, and set the priority to Realtime or High.

Vista doesn't like that setting and resets it to Below Normal. Hell, the System Idle Process is using more proc power than the damn game.

Any ideas?

Why are you trying to change the priority out of curiosity?

What happens if you set it to normal? Is it just that app? What happens if the game runs for a little while and then you try and change it? It may be it just can't allocate the power for it? Have you got a lot of other things running?

That's a really strange problem though....

No, it's the only thing running. My proc is only using about 10% to run the game and I've been reading that if you increase it, it could cause system instability.

The reason why I wanted to increase it is because of the lag. It's like fighting by screenshot and it was driving me nuts.

Oh well...time to set up my old computer and run it off of that.

Are you running it in compatability mode and as an admin? Have you set the affinity to both cores?

I don't really have any other ideas except to google it and see if anybody else has had a similar problem.

Well this is probably a stupid question but do you have the User Account Control turned off? Here's a pic if not.

Talked with one of the Devs the other day (of the game I'm trying to work out) and it seems that you don't want to set it higher than Below Normal as the game will go crazy, suck up more proc power than it really needs, and lock your system up.

Thanks for the help, folks.
