Windows Vista networking issue

i just had to reinstall vista and now i am getting an error with the networking icon in the taskbar it displays a red x like im not connected but i can still get online and when i hover over it it says "connection status unknown sever execution failed" and when i try to open the network and sharing center it only opens the window and wont display anything

any help would be much appreciated

asus a8n32sli deluxe
amd athlon 64 x2 4400+
geforce 7900gt
wd 74gb raptor
creative audigy soundcard

Oh wow that happened to me also! It happened right after a MS update. But then again i am not sure if it was my POS firewall that i had installed or if it was AVG. I just did a reinstall and it works fine now. Since you already did a reinstall.... I dunno i am gonna check out that forum myself just to see what had caused it.

ya in that forum alot of people say that aim was part of the cause and i got that problem after an update and after i installed aim now i just did another reinstall ann im not gonna install anything for a day or two to see if its a windows issue or if its a third party issue and thanks for the help so far

Come to think of it. I installed AIM right before all that crap started happening.
