Default nVida Driver Keeps Crashing in Vista

OK, after searching to the ends of the interweb, i am unable to find a solution to my problem.
I have a freah Vista Ultimate Install on my machine, i have the latest nVidia Drivers for both the chipset (590 SLI Amd) and for my Video cards (2 x 8800 GTS 320's). My issue is that i can be using my maching in windows with messenger open or what ever, and the display driver crashes, recovers, then repeats about every 10 minutes. i am running 2 150 Raptors in RAID 0 for my Boot partition, i 2gb of Super Talent Memory (same stuff as the Give-a-way), and a 6000+ X2 proc. It is all stock, no overclock. When i game, it is fine...

Anyone have any idea? I have all the latest updates, current Virus Protection and i have good cooling... And I am at a loss... please help, it is driving me nuts....

EDIT: if you look at the picture, i caught the error.....

The latest drivers were giving my Gf's computer trouble too... 6800GT. I'll see how mine works out, I've got a 8800GTS O/C 640MB

I've seen weird on 162.22 as well... when I fresh-installed Vista, with the in-box driver, I got a 4.6 experience score, and once you install 162.22 it drops to a 4.4 or 4.3 (X2 4600+ / 2Gb / 7600GS at 450/800)

Make sure ram timings and voltages are set in the bios. As long as they are then try lowering the ram clock to 667 5-5-5-15-2T and see what happens. I see this error all day at work.

Try installing the Vista Update Rollup Patch from here. It's still Beta but I've not had any problems with it and it seems to fix your problem as well as a few others.

Quote:

· Improved reliability and compatibility of Vista when used with newer graphics cards in several specific scenarios and configurations.
· Improved reliability when working with external displays on a laptop.
· Increased compatibility with many video drivers.
· Improved visual appearance of games with high intensity graphics.

Ok dude, I had this problem.

Nvidia drivers are the source, I had to rollback to some other versions recommended to me in some thread in some other forums board. It's something to do with the 8800s, I think they're the only cards that have the problem, and it's only in Ultimate, with the animated backgrounds.

Have you got the animated desktop? If you disable that, then restart, it should stop.
