| Banned | OK, i have been told that when I do my uprade in a few days that I will have to re-install XP. My question is, if I have to do that, is there a way around having to re-install ALL my other programs? Most of them are on a different drive and I hate having to re-install ALL of thme and re-registering ALL of them. Also my wife has Trackmania United and doesn't want to have to go through ALL that re-activation garbage. Any ideas guys? Edit: Why is there not a paste feature for the forum posts? I tried to copy my post from another forum and paste it here and couldn't. I was hoping to save some typing. |

In the past I've had some really bad experiences doing that, but having said that, ive had success to. Ive tried it succesfully on from a Gigabyte DS3 to an Asus P5N-E SLi, which while the same generation motherboards, they have different chipsets, so it shouldn't have worked.

![]() ![]() | I've had problems doing the same on my old DFI LP UT nnF3 way back. Won't risk it again. If you want to just back up mp3s, pics, savegames, apps etc, then put them on your second hard drive, then reinstall Windows, then copy 'em back or just keep them on the next hard drive. You won't be able to copy over game installations, you'll need to reinstall all your applications like Office, whatever games you had installed, your anti-virus etc. I have my whole hard drives contents except for my anti-virus, games, monitoring software and so fourth, in one file on my desktop. When I reisntall, I just drag the whole file over onto my external hard drive, then copy initially what I need back onto it after reinstall. Works as a good back-up safety precaution, plust enables you to keep stuff you don't need/use often elsewhere to free up space on your main drive. And by copy and paste, he means literally copying the files by drag and drop to the other drive I believe.
