Default black screen

i uninstalled my network drivers because i was having some problems (both network connections dissappeared) and was going to update them. i had to reboot after uninstalling them. when the computer started booting up it got to the "Windows XP" screen and then the screen went black...and nothing after that. i have tried safemode and got to the login screen but i have a usb mouse and it isn't being recognised. i'm guessing once i get a regular mouse tomorrow i will be able to login and then just install the correct drivers and everything will be ok right (at least hopefully)? i'm fried right now and probably am not thinking very straigh so if i am missing something or someone has some ideas please let me know.

Go into your bios and see if it will allow you to enable USB mice. Once thats enabled you should be able to use your mouse. Keep in mind that you can also use your keyboard to navigate.

Try clearing your CMOS, but keep in mind this will reset your BIOS settings back to default.
Only really a hassle if you have been OCing and have already found stable settings though.

Sometimes when OCing too high my USB mouse will not respond after Windows starts back up, usually this is fixed by unplugging the mouse and then plugging it back in but sometimes a restart is required.
If you have a PS/2 mouse to work with until you get the driver issue sorted though it would be preferable.

clear CMOS didn't change anything. i'm trying to come up with the cash to get another hard drive, there is nothing wrong with it but i was planning on setting up RAID anyway (still need to learn more about it). this one didn't format right anyway, it only shows 298gigs when it is a 320gig drive. i can format the new drive and install all my programs and whatnot on it, transfer all of my music/vids/pictures onto the new drive and format the current drive as a secondary storage drive. i just don't know when i will have the money and i HATE my laptop.

*edit: i dunno if i need RAID but a secondary drive would be nice for all my media files (i have about 120-130gigs)

*edit #2: i have an extra ATA drive...if i set the jumper on the SATA drive that i am having problems with to slave can i format the ATA drive and setup my OS and copy all of my media files to it temporarily so i can reformat the SATA drive? i would then install the OS on the SATA drive and copy all of my media back to it (i know it will take forever). did that make sense?
