Drivers for Drivers?

I'm attempting to button up install on a 9800 for the kickass rig Dervish and I built a friend (more on that in another thread), so I downloaded the newest Catalyst drivers and started install. It tells me unless I have a driver already installed, I can't install. WTF?

sounds like you got a driver update instead of a full install.CATALYST for WinXP
CATALYST for 98/ME

9800SE, 128 mb of ddr, same old, same old, just acts up. I dunno.

Edit: nope, not an update, wants a damn driver from windows. I'm going there...

I had the same thing happen to my old rig. Something about having to install device drivers right? I downloaded the alternate video driver from ati and it worked fine but I'm not sure if they have alternate drivers for the 9800.

They uninstall crap I beleive before installing crap

Just checking, you have the chipset drivers installed, correct?

You need some sort of original version on CD to do so. Use your install CD to install the old drivers, then download new Cat 3.7 and go from there.

The Omegas did it.

It came with no CD, just a S-video cable...

But, it works now...
