| Apex Master Tech Apprentice | I have a 1.13 ghz P3 system with 512 MB PC133 RAM with a ATI 3D rage PCI video card (for dual-display) and an AGP ATI 9000 card as my main display. Last night, I hooked up the s-video connection on the ATI 9000 to watch Ghost in the Shell on my TV. Everything went fine, but after it was over and I turned the computer off and hooked the connections back up with my monitor, I didn’t get any video. I tried hooking it back up to the TV (eventually), and still got nothing—not even the BIOS info screen. I even tried removing my AGP card and running off the PCI card, but no luck. Basically, I can’t get ANY sort of a video signalon ANY type of display! WTF?! I have a hotkey to switch between my main display and the TV, so I tried turning the computer on, waiting long enough for Windows to start, and hitting the hotkey, but with no luck. It’s a dual boot system running Win 98 SE and XP Pro. I can’t figure this one out at all. Not sure what else to do except…reset the BIOS?.... Is that the only way out of this situation? Has anyone ever heard of a problem like this before? I’m stumped, and I don’t particularly WANT to reset the mobo settings, but I’m afraid that’s my only option. Ideas? THANKS!

| Apex Master Tech Apprentice | Right. That's what I was afriad I would have to do is reset the darn CMOS. I did check that the cards were seated, and I doubt that was the problem. Don't know HOW or WHY this happenned, but I'll try resetting the CMOS tonight. Do I need to remove everything or take any special precautions before resetting the CMOS?

You don't need to remove cards or otherwise disassemble your rig.

| Apex Master Tech Apprentice | Putwig, I dig your sig... Anyway, I cleared the CMOS, and everything worked---rebooted windows, no problems. Moved everything back where I wanted...and had the same problem! I cleared the CMOS...AGAIN...but I waited a good 20 minutes before fixing everything back. Looks good to me! SIGH. No idea why this happenned or how to prevent it in the future, but at least I know how to fix it. THANKS to everyone for your advice. Man, I love this place...
