| Ok, so my friend recently bought a new video card so he could play Counter Strike Source decently. He bought the ATI Radeon 9550 256MB AGP. He put it in some P.O.S HP computer. It has an ASUS A7V8X-LA mobo. During CSS it will go for like 4 seconds, freeze, and die. Ive tried almost everything. Im wondering if it isnt the voltage. But it runs HL2: Lost Coast like a dream. Can someone PLEASE help me. Thanks | ||

| Game patches basically fix bugs in the game (bad programming and ect). Counter Strike Source runs under the Steam platform which will automatically update the game if there is a necessary update... what kind of card did your friend have before he put the new one in? Was it onboard? If it was onboard video he needs to disable it under the device manager. Did he run a cab cleaner and a driver cleaner before installation of the new card? Certain steps you have to take to get a new card to work properly and drivers to work correctly. Otherwise you will have issues. I've had my fun in the past with ATI drivers... ATI has great cards but there driver platforms suck. | ||

| You can download the driver cleaner here- Driver Cleaner Professional 1.5 Free Download - Softpedia Once it is installed reboot the PC into safe mode. Just follow the directions on the readme file. Run the cab cleaner first and then the driver cleaner. Cab cleaner is under the tools menu. Now, Make sure the driver cleaner deletes the old onboard graphics card driver. Afetr its all done empty the recycle bin and reboot the system. After it has been rebooted and Windows starts up will will probably detect new hardware. Do whatever you can to back out of that or cancel. Then go into the device manager and look at the display adapters in the drop down menu. Select the onboard video card and then click disable. I think there may even be a way to relocate a jumper on the motherboard to disable the onboard video for good. I'm not sure though... | ||
