ok so my problem is
I have have a ATI Radeon 9250 PCI
recently I noticed I couldnt run games any more
such as doom 2, halo, fear, ut2k4, ect...
funny thing is how doom 3 will run fine but doom 2 wont run at all

bascially what happens is the game just minamizes back to the desktop
as soon as it starts
does not give a error
if you try to maximize it the mointer makes a clicking sound because it changes the res then clicks again and returns back to the desktop

Ive tried about everything I can think off
uninstalling the drivers and installing the ones that came with the card
installing the lastest drivers
changing to a different PCI slot
even a different gfx card
I put in a GeForce4 MX-420 AGP, same thing still happened

so I know its the system not the card

I ran dxdialog and ran a test on Direct3D
it gave an error (the test did the exact same thing as the games did)
told me that I pressed a key on the keyboard and exited the test
so I got a different USB keyboard (I was using a PS/2 keyboard)
did the same thing

anybody have any idea's on whats going on with my system ?
Id really rather not resort to a reformat ...

How about your Chupset drivers and Direct X 9c?

WHen you removed the old drivers...di you remove the CCC first? cause you need to before removing the driver.

Also..did you delete the ATI folder from you C drive? and then run Driver Cleaner pro before installing the new ones?

Well I used the uninstall utility which removes evrything in one shot

I reinstalled DX9c and installed the latest version of it

I did not use driver cleaner pro
Ill guess I will try that then

hmm sounds simlar to what is goin on with my gf's rig. She's got a 9800 Pro and games will not open like you describe and the windows drag and scroll very very very choppy.

well I can scroll fine
everything besides 3D works fine

I got a copy of driver cleaner pro (not in a legal way )
gonna try it now see if it does anything

It seems I just fixed my problem


I think the problem was the xp theme I was using

my theme (zune theme), my friend uploaded it and I installed it manually
but it seems theres were bits and pices missing

I got the real auto installer from zune.net , reinstalled it, and all the menu colors and stuff that were missing where fixed

I then ran doom II and it ran fine
same for other games too

any way thanx for your help
