Default GeForce 6800OC

Hey everyone!

Last week I sent in my BFGTech 6800OC back to them for bad fans. They did an RMA and Sent me a new card. I just got it into my system and got newly updated drivers installed. It ran good for 45 minutes doing just minimal PC work and no gaming.

Now as I was getting ready to close out a program my monitor just shut off. I have everything setup as digital and its hooked up to the DVI Port. I'm able to see the screen but an error comes up and my system just keeps rebooting itself. Windows don't even start.

Then, I noticed that all the texting through the system boot up process is all messed up to...

Hardware or Software issue??

What the hell is with the Fonts on the second screenie..I've never seen things capitalised like that!

First...do you have al the proper power connections for the card and mobo?

How about chipset drivers, DX-9c? and did you properly uninstall and reinstall new vid drivers?

How do you feel about doing a format and starting fresh? cause if you still have problems..then it may be hardware related.

on a laptop ive seen it would mispell words on the startup windows screen in the different modes, it would say "Stjrt Windkwl nlrmalky" (start windows normally) and had to be sent back for a bad video card. not sure but sounds like a coincidence

I tried everything in the book to get it working. Tried 2 different HD's, updated the BIOS, Updated the Chipset drivers, Tweaked the BIOS AGP settings while I was on the phone to BFGTech's support line. But for some reason it would'nt even boot windows up.

So, I Slapped in my old school GeForce 2TI and it works fine. BFGTech is sending me an advance RMA ASAP.

The guy I was on the phone with was mad because it seemed to him that the card was not tested before it was shipped to me.

Just a little update....

They sent me a new card this week and low and behold the same issue only worse! This is pure hell in my own pc world!

1/24/07
BFGTech decided to do an advanced RMA on the first new card they sent me. They send a new card and a prepaid UPS label to send the bad card they sent me. So, Last Thursday I called them up wondering where my new card was at. The lady said that she needed to have digital pictures of the bad card they sent me. I then stated that when I had talked to tech support that nothing was needed on my part to do an advanced RMA. SO, She says that she will ship it out no questions asked.

1/25/07
I called BFG back to get my tracking number and then the same exact person answers the phone. She asks for my number and of course I giver her all my info and she says, "Sir, We need a credit card to do an advanced RMA". At that point I was FINE. The card had better show up on Monday no matter what.

1/30/07
Card shows up as being shipped UPS Ground and I tracked it just for the heck of it. It shipped out on the 24th... WTF? She gave me all this grief for what? I called her back and she said "Oops, Looks like we setup two RMA's for the same issue I'll go ahead and cancel the one".

1/31/07

I shipped out the very first card they sent me from my work today and wrote down the tracking number just incase.
I got home with the new one and proceded to get it in my computer. I'm already frustrated because it has taken over a month to get this done.
Immediatley nothing but issues, All kinds of artifacting even worse, ALOT worse than the first card.
My system booted into XP twice and that was it. Now I can't get one of my HD's to boot up. (Thank goodness for a backup)

Now, I have yet a 3RD RMA going into effect as I type this. This is PURE BS.

So, Tell me why a graphics card company would ship there cards in plastic? Why no anti static bag? Pictures prove it all!

Sorry to be replying back after back..

Just another update:

Called up BFGTech and they issued yet another RMA for the card I just got. At first the person I talked to was very hesitant and was basically saying that my system was the culprit, Not there cards...

So, While I was on the phone with him we went into the bios and made sure the PSU was running at the correct voltages. Thats fine.

If it was a an issue with the MOBO then it would show up on a different card right? The other backup card I ahve is a Geforce2 TI and that don't require to have power of the PSU just the AGP slot.

Now, After all this commotion I can't get my HD to boot up. Goes through the BIOS and windows attempts to startup but a quick blue screen and a reboot. Cycles quite often like this.

Anyone else had issues with BFGTech?

that first pic looks like my comp when I "over" OC my card, I thought I fried it, but I just reseated it back in into the slot and it went back to normal ...

Got a 3rd card Today from BFG Tech. I have to applause them in trying to help me with my situation but it's now appearing that I either have Motherboard/PSU failure

Everything runs fine on my old GeForce 2TI but this card does not require power off the PSU.

The 6800OC requires power off the PSU and I just don't understand how it could be he PSU when all the voltages are normal under my BIOS system health status screen.

If it was PSU issue it should show up from just running a single rail for my HD and DVD Rom right?

Or would it only show up after a certain amount of power draw when the 6800OC is connected?

The bios is an unreliable way to measure voltages.
You should really measure the PSU with a decent voltmeter.

Have you tried a different 12V connector from the Psu for the vidcard?

But really ...
No matter what ,a newer high quality Power supply will be a good investment towards the future anyway.

So maybe thats the route you could go next.

I've only used a volt meter a few times but i'm sure I could figure it out. Just set it to a 12V setting to test the PSU?

Yes, I have tried different connectors and even a different rail and the same results.

The one I have now is a Thermaltake 480W.

EDIT: Tested the PSU and everything is fine! All my power rails are reporting correct voltages and then I took the card over to my Dad's PC and ARTIFACT mania on the boot up screen right off the bat.

I really appreciate you guys responding with tons of advice and thoughts.
3 strikes and your out for BFG Technologies.
