he says when he restarts the computer via warm reboot, it reboots and comes back up to the windows background with no icons, no start, nothing...... and then he has to do a hard reboot, and it comes back up to windows and everything seems to work fine other than the drivers of the video card arent sticking...... anyone have an idea whats wrong?

That card needs lots of Juice!

Does he have a good brand 450-500 watt supply? and does he have both power PCIE cables hooked up to it?

DIdi he do a fresh install? or did he just swap cards?

If he just pulled a ATI card and didn't remove drivers properly and run driver cleaner, it might be causing those problems....it's less likely if he did it with an NVIDA card, but still possible.

Ther eis a specific order to doing ATI card removal, I will wait til I hear back from you before going through it.

Oh..also some Mobo's need a Molex conected to the motherboard to add exttra power for PCIE cards..does his board have one? (Mostly DFI has this)

A lot of juice is an understatement.

Make sure that the 2 PCI-X power connectors on the card are connected to 2 different "rails" or at least sets of cables coming out of the PSU. And if he doens't have a 600W or better PSU, I would suggest he seriously condier getting one.

hah, he has plenty of juice, 1.2 kw to be exact...... and also when he runs them in SLI, when he goes to enable sli, the computer reboots..... but he is no longer having trouble with just the single one, it works fine, but SLI is a problem now

Well, want to clue us in? Or was it one of those "I am not telling 'cause it makes me look like a total n00b" problems, like the PSU not plugged in or something?

Haha, I did that when building my pc a month ago. I was the target for much abuse from Dex when he realised I hadn't plugged the power into my mobo properly, and that's what was causing artifacting in FEAR...

In my day all motherboards took 20pin ATX connectors. None of this 24-pin rubbish.

I think 'the definition of n00b' is a bit harsh - my mistake was not even on the scale of the guy who thought watercooling was sealing your case and then filling it with tap water...

I see alot of people putting LGA775 CPUs in backwards and then forcing the shutter thing down. Thats pretty nooby as most of pins break.

Oh lord no tell me that's not a true story. He must have been dropped on his head multiple times as a child, a few more times as a teen, then possibly hit by a few lorries/busses. Christ.
