![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Well, the DVI output on my 9800XT died, so since it looks like I am going to be stuck with my current system, AMD 2500XT o/c to 2.2Gig, 2x512 OCZ3500 RAM, I got my nice new X800GTO in today. I am getting a strange error when using 3DMark 05. All is well untill the last test, then just a blank screen during the test, then I eventually get a display back, and I cannot see the mouse cursor on the error message, just have to guess where OK is and click, then all seems well. I can see my score on 3D 05. This is close to the error message I am getting: IDirectDevice9: resent failed evicelost (D3DEKR_DEVICELOST) I did some Google work on this, nothing. My main monitor is new, a Hanns-G JW199D (19" widescreen LCD) and the second is a Samsung 710n LCD. During the failure of the main monitor, I can still see Everest and my temps during the test. My question is what device is lost? The main monitor or the video card? I did put a Zalman VF700Cu cooler on the card before I installed it, the temps on the card seem acceptable, 40 or so idle 65 or so when stressed. Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated! If the monitor is bad, I can still RMA it. I am suspecting it, but at the same time think I am wrong, so I give up for tonight! Thanks, and have a good one! E

| Apex Tech God | did you try running one moniter while benchin it normally helpsa bunch for scores, and did you run the bios flash on that card, or did you just open it add a cooler and put it in

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Uninstall D3D, then reinstall the latest version to see if it makes a difference. I would recommend www.guru3d.com as a place to look for uninstallers. |

I took the card out of the box and replaced the heatsink. I saw in some reviews where this card gets hot. I ran the test when I first put the card in with the Hanns monitor, no errors, but I got a lot of black lines on the last test. I had both monitors up when what happened in my previous post happened. I left my multimeter at work, I want to check the PSU out. I am pretty sure it is over 500Watts, and with only 2 SATA drives, I optical drive, and a few fans, I should be OK there, but you never know. Thanks a lot for your responce. E

| Apex Tech God | yeah i doubt its a power issue, and if you havent OCed the cardany tat really shouldnt be happening try using one moniter for the next run, and try running your PC with some sort of house fan blowinginto the case for optimal temporary cooling, that could helpsee if its a temp issue

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Sorry about the delay with my responce. I checked the power supply, all is good at full load. I used a couple of driver cleaners, one came with the video card, another I got from another site, do not remember the name of it. I booted into safe mode, dumped the old drivers and installed the ones on the disk, and also the newest from ATI. I also deleted and reinstalled both 3D mark programs, '03 and 05. And I still lose video during both tests. I am lost here, any ideas? I can play Doom3 at one setting below the max with no problem. My other games do not have problems, and the computer does not crash, unless I run 3DMark. Thanks for your time, and sorry about the delay, I got tied up with a data recovery project for a local company, I think I got %90 off the hard drive before it totally died! Have a good one! e

| Light My Fire | this sounds suspiciously like a BIOS issue to me... in your systems BIOS, try lowering your AGP Aperture size to around 128mb, disable any and all things that involve "shadowing" unless it is associated with a RAID setup... try bumping your agp voltage up a notch (if possible) and disable fastwrites and other optimization options associated with your display settings in the bios... under windows, go into the display properties / settings / advanced / troubleshoot, and uncheck "Enable Write Combining" and lower your hardware accelleration one notch (THIS WILL NOT LOWER YOUR GAME PERFORMANCE before anyone asks)... theres some website that cites just about everything i indicated here, but i cant remember the name or address for the life of me....

Thanks for the input, AGP aperture was set at 64? I set it to 128, no shadowing was enabled that I saw, bumped the voltage from 1.5 to 1.6. And I dropped the hardware acceleration also. Same thing. After the 'Mother Nature' test, I get a no signal, af few times the monitor's light goes from yellow to green, and after a few mins, I get a score. That was using DVI, one monitor. If I reboot using one monitor, D-Sub I get to the third, I think, sound test before I get a FMOD error in FSOUND_SetVolume, but the video seems ok. I did some Goggle work and that error is most likely a driver issue. I never seem to get easy to solve problems! I am begining to think this could just be my computer showing it's age, and the results of my first real o/c attempts! The computer has no issues in the games I play, and I do see an improvement over my old 9800 XT w/128megs RAM. A friend of mine is wanting to sell a non o/c'd AMD 3700 64, I have the RAID drives, a case on the way... Maybe it is time to upgrade the folding farm, and build something a little newer. Thanks for the ideas, if anyone has any more, let me know! Eric

Get another copy of the bench, preferably from another source, it could have a corrupted file

Thanks for the info $SOLIDS$. I think I got these from a good place, it is where I get most of my downloads (mjrgeeks), but I will try a different source for a download. Data corruption is an angle I had not thought of. Good way to eliminate a possible problem. Thanks for your time! E Dang, had to try several sites to get a decent transfer rate. Now it will not run, It says reliable benchmarking cannot be determined ..... Lost Focus? ( cannot recall the exact message.) I am not sure about posting this, but I see no harm in it. I am going to go ahead and get a AMD 3700 64 from a friend of mine, and make this computer a backup/folder. http://forums.pcapex.com/hardware_ad..._question.html That is my post in the Hardware Advice section. But I do appreciate your time! Have a great one! E

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I am going to revive this post due to some new info. My new ASRock Dual Sata board with a 64 bit 3700 does the same thing. I have felt the heatsink (a Zalman, and it is warm, but not very hotl So here is my situation as I see it. I replaced the heatsink, thus in my opinion voided the warranty, depending on what Sapphire says if and when I talk to them. I have a 'ticket number' and do not have much hope for that. So it looks like the card is not good, I need to replace it. The funny thing is it plays Doom3 with no problems, and all my older games, and I have no issues with it except for 3d mark. And I have tried multiple downloads of 3dM, and have tried it totally stock, or o/c, and the same thing happens. I have changed the drivers on my current rig and the old Athlon XP rig, same thing. So any reccomendations for a sub $200 card? I have a PCI x16 port on the motherboard, but I have seen mixed info as far as that goes. Have a good one all! E

| Mastah Overclocker | Dumb question, but is the mobo chipset and DX-9 up to date? I would look at a bad OS, bad vid drivers, and maybe even the power supply. How are the temps? Reset the cmos and run at stock clocks, and of course... the cid card at stock. You may have tried all of the above, but before you ditch the card, you gotta check all the basics!

I was running the card at stock. Even with the computer at stock the same thing would happen. All the drivers and such were if not the very latest, maybe the next newest one. The card died today. I rebooted, and all I get are lines, an unusable screen. Reset CMOS, removed, reseated the card... just a bunch of lines. But the old 9800 Pro/XT still works, so I have a backup that is not too bad. I put it in, and it works just fine. Everest is showing my volts too high, but the multimeter has them right on. Have a good one, I am going video card shopping! Thanks for your time. E

| Mastah Overclocker | Plese tell me you have a good name brand 400-550 watt power supply in that rig, I would hate to see you drop another vid card in there and have ti die out too because of a junk Ultra X-connect or some no name brand! Can you RMA the GTO, and sell it when it comes back?
