Default 6600GTs showing as Unknown device

As some of you may know, I have Gigabytes 3D1 dual 6600GT SLi gfx card. I just noticed today that both GPUs are showing in Device Manager as Unknown, not display adapters.

A lot of games recently have been lagging and behaving badly for me, when I usually get smooth frame rates on the highest settings. Also a the odd spot of random artifacting too, which is weird because the GPU temperature probes report that the temps are normal, idleing at around 47c, load at around 56c.

Core and mem speeds are stock, and the auxillary power cable is plugged into the card.

Ive tried 3 different sets of drives, 2 mobo BIOS versions, but still they show as Unknown.

Anybody help me out here?

I would try un-installed all of the nVidia video card-related drivers, and also delete the folder named "nVidia" in your C: drive. Then, re-install it all.

Well, to report back, I did what Ator suggested, then spent the rest of the day with my hardware on my desk trying to figure out why Windows wouldn't boot afterwards...

Ended up having to format and reinstall
