![]() | Which is more important...Core clock or Memory clock speed? i am looking to get the most out of my AGP system ASUS a7vn8x-e deluxe 1gb corsair pc3200 ram 120g/b western digital i was looking into the ATi x800gto for its overclocking capabilities or the Nvidia 6600GT x800gto has 400mHz core clock 980 mem clock 6600gt has 500 core clock and 900 mem clock both have 256mb RAM also the x800gt has the same specs as GTO but is cheaper, ne ideas ne 1? which is a better choice and which one has better overclocking capabilities? thank you |

| Mastah Overclocker | They are both equally important, for example, if you don't have enough memory bandwidth, the the Core will be starved, if you have too much memory bandwidth, then it just goes to waste...it's a bit of a blancing act. What you should also consider before picking a card, is the number of pixel "Piplelines" Low end cards will only have 2~4 and high end cards can have as many as 24 these day (7800GTX ) The memory interface is very important too, the low end cards will use 64 or 128MB, and the high end uses a 256MB interface. I know this does not makes your decision easier, but there is more to consider than meets the eye!

![]() | The 6600GT is an overclocker's dream. 500/900 stock (some are higher) and I see them at 600/1225 all the time. On water they go as high as 675/1350. I run mine at 550/1150 24/7 and bench at 612/1230. Never had a problem out of this inexpensive little card. I went with the XFX btw.

I'm with Zombie on this one, besides a few instances like 3DMark06 (should leave all SM2.x hardware trounced creating a similar situation to what happened to the GeForce 4x00Ti's in '03), I'd say an x800 might last you longer in real-game performance. Now, I'm not exactly sure, -but if I remember correctly, the x800GTO was rated for higher clockability and some of them even unlocked, literally doubling thier throughput to/ like thier GTO2 bretheren..
