![]() | I tried to install my new AIW 9700 today but for some reason my computer wont boot when its installed. I have a 300W power supply but all that happens is the fans in my computer rotate a few times ( the heatsink fan and also the fan on the AIW 9700 itself ). I've tried to start it with all my fans and my CD-RW drive disconnected from the power supply but it still wont boot. I also attached the card to the floppy 4-pin connector coming directly from the power supply ( instead of using the included adapter ), but still no boot all i get is just a few rotations of the fans Whats wrong with the dang thing ?!!! |

| Ghostrider | If it hadn't been, your system would do basically the same thing. Try putting in your old vid card and see if it does the same thing. You may have messed something up installing it, hopefully not.

![]() ![]() ![]() | 300W is borderline, my system was unstable with a 350W Antec PSU, also if it is an off-brand, it may not provide "Clean" or "True" power, if you can bum a 350+ from a bud, try it.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I found several references like the following: "The second note about power, is the requirement of good, clean, stable power. If you have a generic power supply in your computer, count on the card being glitchy and occasionally (read: often) restarting the computer whenever you're using the card's 3D features, or multimedia capture features. The solution to this problem, is making an Oath never to buy a cheap power supply again." 300W is the bare minimum that ATI states will run the card. As we all know, the bare minimum is rarely enough. Peng's advice on trying a different PSU is good advice. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Now perhaps someone has a solution to my cards minor issue... When I first installed it, I would get grid lines every couple of boots (after upgrading my PSU to no avail.) I thought it might be a cooloing issue so I built a PVC cooling duct to bring outside air directly to the cards cooler, this seems to have solve part of the problem, now it only gives me grid-lines every other week or so. Any ideas?

True BA, but he stated that he had unplugged everything but the HDD. Seems like 300 should have at least powered the system up with all the fans and drives unpowered.
