Default Crash at 4x

I just instlled a fx 5200 ultra and updated the drivers. I went into the bios and changed it from 2x to 4x. Then it booted up fine played a couple different games and it would crash on on start of each game. It crashed once doing a file search. Now that i have it at 2x everything is fine. Is there a bios setting i need to change when i change it to 4x or a display setting maybe.

Isn't the 5200 and AGP 8x card? That might be the problem. If it's not currently an option in your BIOS, you should find out if it can be fixed w/ a BIOS flash.

maybe try updating your mother board drivers and then reinstall the video drivers.

Well i figured it out. The card didn't like my overclock. I had my Xp1600@ 1.6gig so i dropped it to a 1.47gig and i was able to complete 3dmark '03. My score is still low but not the 644 i got when the vid card was at 2x. This time it was a lil over 1000....pathetic. Any tricks of the trade to help me get my score up?

Seeing as your card is marketed as budget card, and how its benching in MK03 isn't surprising... though I'd rather see a 2001 score because those scores make sense to me... haven't learned where the cards fall on '03 yet. My guess is you're shooting par for cards of your class... being the radeon 9000, gf3's, radeon 8500's, and maybe even a crappy 4200 (since those aren't dx9 compatible and take a large hit in the score because of it)
