| Apex Techie Wannabe | Hi, I can't find that 256MB card on their website, but normally the 128 MB card uses DDRIII Memory, and that 256MB card uses some DDR memory. So if you want to play at (very) high resolutions, choose the 256MB version, but if you don't need high resolutions, choose the 128MB card (DDRIII mem is faster). Also, is the 256MB card able to run at SLI ? If you plan to use SLI later, it is something you have to consider. just my 2 cents ps: sorry for my bad english | |

| Oy, tough choice! The extra memory may be slightly usefull as the card gets realy old, but the extra clock speed will generally be faster in most games today. I would look into the 128MB "Plain" 6800 that can unlock the extra pipes (Search the archives here) they are almost within the same price range, and will almost double the performance of a 6600GT when the mod is done! (Using driver based software, no "Hard Mods" to the card are needed) Here is one of them http://forums.pcapex.com/showthread....light=6800+mod EDIT: The 256 MB version may be better at higher resolution, but givin the lack of pipelines and clock speeds of the 6800 series, on todays newer games, you won't realy be able to pump high resolutions with that 6600 anyways..unless you like a good looking game that runs at 10FPS ![]() Last edited by $SOLID$ Necro; 31-October-05 at 01:30 PM.. | ||

| The 6600GT is better.. has a lot better memory performance, the 6600 vanilla is crap. A single 6800GT would outperform an SLI 6600GT setup also.. and it's about the same price range and has better upgradability.. you could maybe sell your current setup and go that route. | ||

Sound advice! What you get, depends a bit on the deal you can get imho... but stay away from the "plain" 6600, it is indeed not a great performer. TDR | |||||||||||||||||||||

| I'd go for the 256MB so you can still might be able to play above 640x48 in a year from now (being the type who likes to avoid upgrades as long as what I have is still capable of working above 640 or 800 pixels (unless maxed with 12x Adaptive/ 2x TAA w/ 16x AF in which case, 800x64 on most LCD's become merely acceptable or comparable to 1024x78 with 2xAA/ 2x AF for image quality), but overall, I'd reccomend a kind of deal like this can (not saying it usually will, but) outperform 6800GT in SLI: $200 256MB x850 XT Platinum Edition w/VIVO ![]() having VIVO AND 256MB is an amazing feat at such a most irresistibly cheap price plus, its technically superior to the AGP version having 2x DVI, not to mention the slick PCI-E interface (I got my AGP version at $270 a month ago [still the lowest price on the AGP version] and that was the best deal I ever got on a videocard; i'd still take that offer again in an instant, but probably black out if I had a PCI-E system and saw it at $200 -only problem being it's a rebate, but hold on a few days and I should be able to get the new ATi EPP form to you if you're interested in getting one for $230 without rebate).. Otherwise, I reccomend you go with Necro's idea and get the plain 6800 128MB, see how it goes.. Probably think about upgrading in the range of a year and a half though as 128MB of memory will likely become it's bane.. Last edited by konai_konai666; 02-November-05 at 10:11 AM.. | ||

| There is no performance difference between the BFG 6600GT OC AGP and the PCI-E cards. I have the BFG Geforce 6600GT OC AGP card. Great card, the memory is 128meg GDDR3, don't know if the 256mb model is regular DDR or not. My card playes Quake4, 1024x768 settings on high, and I get around 40-60 FPS. I have the card overclocked to 571mhx core and 1130mhz memory Last edited by hawklen; 05-November-05 at 09:14 PM.. | ||
