Default video card installation ( notebooks)

how do you install a video card for notebooks?

for example...if I buy a Geforce Go 6800 from ABS...... how do i install it?

You can't. Notebooks come with embedded video chipsets. You can't install a video card into a non-existent slot.

you say that... but some notebooks are upgradeable. nvidia has been pushing for a unified mobile video card design that will be interchangable, hence why you are able to even find the 6800 go for sale. however, at the moment very few laptops use this universal design, and chances are that if you dont know that yours does, it doesnt

You are right about the higher end laptops. Alienware laptops have upgradeable chipsets. Try finding the upgrade parts though... very hard and expensive.


Your plain jane laptops are not upgradeable though.

yeah. nvidia has been pushing to have a unified laptop graphics architecture called MXM (link here) that if widley adopted would spawn a fairly large mobile graphics market i would think... i know if they were more readily available, i would only buy a laptop if it had upgradeable graphics.
