Question Radeon 9000 Heatsink Help

I have recently got a Radeon 9000 card and I started to OC it. The stock settings were 250/185 and I got it up to 282/195 stable with the stock heatsink. Im not happy with that so I ordered a Blue Orb heatsink. When it finnaly came I tried putting it on but it wont fit. It goes on the card fine but when I go to put it into the slot the PCI slot get in the way. So did I just kill $12 or is there a way to make it work.

Or does anyone know another way to cool it down. And what is a good way to cool the memory down.

Thanks

That i am aware of there is only one way to mount the Orb heatsink on your card (i havent tryed it on a Radeon9000).

I can tell ya though if you are looking for a better OC on your graphics card, you would more performance out of adding a Side intake over the Card, then a new heatsink. As for the memory you can pick up a set of RAM sinks from most places (try www.highspeedpc.com ), keep in mind you will also need thermal epoxy for them. And in my mind it really insnt worth the money (those RAM sinks are expensive) specially on a 9000.

What is a side intake?

I got a old pentium 1 heatsink and Dremeled it apart to fit the memory and bought thermal epoxy off ebay for $2. I am just wondering if there are any better ways of cooling it. And will it help if i glue the heatsinks on.

Thanks

Side intake is a hole cut in the side of your case opposite the vid card. A fan blows in cool air. Ram sinks might give you a slight boost. But not much, they don't get very hot.

Biggest boost would come from cooling the gpu.

Yep...It should help. Providing your case has good ventilation to start with.

You shouldn't need ram cooling for your 9000. Just focus on the GPU.

be the first victim to try my sensationally cheap and effective card cooler, which did wonders for me overclocking my grafx card, but stopped doing wonders when the fans died...

250/185? that sounds kinda low, hrmm, my 9000 pro, is 275/275 default, I thought the non pro would be higher than that.. Heres a pic of my card, with a pentium heatsink on the gpu. (I have a stock athlon hsf, green fan on it now) I run it 300/300 stable. Kind of a crappy pic..

Hawklen, how did you attach the athlon heatsink to the GPU? I've got a couple stock athlon & P3 heatsinks lying around & that looks like it'd do a good job of cooling.

I used good' ol artic silver 2 adhesive (whatever its called) for the heatsink, and my secret weapon of automotive goop (silocone adhesive) in little amounts so the fan wont fall off
