Well, all the reviews are out regarding the Crossfire setup w/ the X850's.............

What do you think???...........Croosfire or Backfire?

Hmmm.. Concerning performance, its about equal to SLI but rather late. Considering everything else though, well, yes, the name is perfect. It is a cross-fire in terms of in-game performance between this and comparable 6800U SLI's..
Gets me pondering on the thought of doctoring that logo just for shints; switching the "CROSS" to "BACK".. Heheh!

From what I've read it's a misfire.

Thumbs down

From what I've read so far, it's not looking too crash-hot (especially considering the price tag and the resolution topping out at below that of a single x850!!) - It's a shame really - competition's a great thing for us consumers
Hopefully ATI will get the issues sorted with their next line of cores - until then though, i'll take a pair of 7800GTX cards thanks

This is my opinion on all the reviews that I've read so far...........

* It pretty much equals the performance of the SLI with 6800GTs using the X850s.

* You don't really have to worry about game issues like the SLI as adjustments can be readily made from the ATI Control Panel.

* Cost-wise...........you pretty much have to do the same as SLI.............purchasing a mobo and (2) cards.

Now, I want to see a test with the new X1800 (R520) cards.

Based on the reviews from HardOCP and Anandtech, Crossfire X850XT's are faster than dual 6800 Ultra's, and slightly faster than a single 7800GTX.

It sucks that the Crossfire circuitry limits the output to 1600x1200 @ 60Hz, but since Crossfire has amazing AA abilities, it kinda cancels out that bad point. Check out an example for the difference here.

bit-tech.net did the review but instead of challenging it with 7800s they did it with 6800GT and Us to give it a fair chance. But you when the new video cards come out for ATI nvidia is going to send another top of the line video card to keep on top of them.

From what I've read, it's not bad, and the specs sometimes top out just under the dual 7800. BUT, SLi is well established, and there are many, many, many motherboards out there (infact, it's hard to see a new one) without SLi. Unfortunatly for ATi, there are NO, and I mean NO motherboards on the market that support CrossFire. I've spent the last two nights looking and hunting, all I can find are reviews, and Graphics cards that are CrossFire ready...if you somehow mariciously happen to see on an online store an ATi CrossFire Ready motherboard that is avalable to buy, then PM me please...

lol, thanks.

Well, now lessee here...
Spend a bucket of money on a mobo just to support a pair of SLi vid cards... hmm not gonna happen here..
Havin to scrape money to get replacement mobo as it is...
What I'm just a bit confused on is that the Geforce 2 MX/MMX 400 resolution is over 1600x1200 and this card is HOW OLD..?? Hope you see my point... lotta money spent but really is it worth it? I don't see that it is... I'll eventually cough up the cash for a nice GeForce 6800 (maybe even the PCI-e version)...but will I buy two and SLi them, no.

WOW thanx for that link. I now know exactly why I have never spent more than $50 on a video card. Yes I see a slight difference, but it could be 3X as degraded and my bad eyes wouldn't pick up on that while moving in a game. Actually my eyes probably wouldnt get it motionless. Guess that's how I can turn all the WOW features down and resolution up a tad and still give out a handsome amount of headshots. Sure, if it was free, I'd jump on it in a heartbeat. But for what I do it just doesnt make me want to give up my socket A mobo just yet. Maybe next year!

Yeah, cuz I'm beginning to realize, in order for me to get a Graphics card upgrade, I'm going to have to get a full upgrade, and I might as well get the tech to last me at least 3 years this time, instead of getting something that will only last me a year or so... You all think the socket 939 will be around for a while?

I think two R520s CrossFired would be awesome with an AMD X2 4800+. Maybe that's what I'll get.

Oh BTW, the X1000 series of CrossFire cards solved the resolution limitation.

Anyway, HERE is Abit's rendition of the CrossFire Ready Mobo(incase you haven't seen it yet).

As far as BackFire is concerned, I'll have to wait and see some benchmarks and reviews first before I start making allogations.

Any motherboard with either a Radeon Xpress 200 CrossFire Edition or an Intel i955X chipset with two PCI-E slots will support Crossfire.

Mine too, I can't wait. Two x1800 XTs would be awesome with the gigabyte mobo, but, I am intrested in seeing what Sapphire will have for us. That's going to be awesome. Note, that when you go to their website, and look at mobos, Pure Crossfire has one item listed, PC-A9RD480.

I can't wait till Christmas
