Use the drivers that ATi makes. Your taking a risk with any third party drivers, and you can get what happened with the Omega's with all types. I know there are Omega, NGO, DNA, Detonator and zer0point drivers, but I'm a nVidia guy at the moment. I've used Omega mainly, but also used NGO when using ATi.

I've never had a problem with the Omega drivers. Did you make sure to follow their setup advice for the BIOS and everything else?

Just yesterday, I updated my omega drivers on both of my PCs (ATI 9800XT & nV5700U DDR3). They work great.

I have had problems in the past only because I didn't completely REMOVE the old drivers first. Go here to the ATI site, type uninstall utility into the search bar and download the uninstall utility. Then reload the drivers.

That should fix it.

Always go with the newest, unless you are having problems, then go with the second newest...
