![]() | I need help selecting a video card for my athlon XP 3200 OC'd @ 2.3Gig and soon to go up with more advanced cooling. I have been told that a 6600 GT is about the best I should get without going overboard. I currently have a 4600 128 MB card and the FPS suck. Any ideas. |

| Apex Tech Fanatic Supreme | from what i've read the 6600gt is a good card. My friend has one in his 2600+ and works very well for him. I think that'd be a good selection for you. I'd tell you about some ATI card but, alas...i'm bias towards nvidia and don't know crap about ATI cards... |

Thanks, but I'm looking for single agp 6600GT, I'm not lucky enough to own an SLI system yet, Next year. I'm looking for something that's as powerful as I can get for my XP 3200+ without getting more power than I can take advantage of all the power. in that case get a 6800 gt, you should be able to use all of its power quite nicely. ![]() that is unless its over your budget... zipzoom has some 6600 GT agp's at nice prices. gigabyte has a fanless one with turbo memory or something.... i hear its really good

| Apex Master Tech | make sure you get a 6600gt instead of the 6600 as the 6600 has normal DDR memory that cannot clock to the speeds of the 6600gt's GDR3 and as a result is alot slower. If you got a 6800gt (now under £200) you woulden't regret it, it would give you a big boost in fps over a 6600gt, but it all depends on the res of your monitor and how much your going to spend. If you game at 1024x768 I'd advise a 6600gt but if you game at 1280x1024 I would recomend a 6800gt. Inbetween the two if your willing to overclock is the 6800 standard version which has locked pipes which can be unlocked and can be flashed with bios's that will allow the core clocks of a 6800gt. |

Please correct me if i'm wrong, but I could've swore I had an hour or so of tech-consulting via IM with him (post_break) about sudden artifacting/ slowdown issues that occurred suddenly while we were chatting one day.. He's RMA'ing it now .. And according to NewEgg's recent customer reviews, the latest batch from Apollo is quite rotten, be very skeptical if you really, REALLY want an Apollo. Otherwise, get an XFX 6800GT or an X800XL, because in less than a month, they'll be low-to-midranged cards when compared side-by-side with a (likely-outperforming) midrange offering coming from ATi and nVidia pretty soon (likely within three months to be available in retail or very close for nVidia's 7600GT/?).

Yea i know hes rmaing it now. He has my 9800 AIW Pro till he gets his new card back. I was just pointing him in the way of postbreak because its good to talk to somebody who has the product.

![]() ![]() | Ahhh, I see. Nothin big. Anyway, I'm jus' sayin, at this point, if you're looking into playing any new games at even mid-high settings (without AA/AF), a 16 pixel pipeline card (for maybe $100 more than the 6600GT) is definately a good option for those who don't want to upgrade in a year because Unreal Tournament 2007 (or the like) wouldn't run very well on the 8-pp last-gen midrange card.. So, I'd reccomend 6800GT as the future-forth best value right now for PCI-E (if you take into account they'll probably last longer than the X800's on SM3.0 alone), but X800XL if you're on a tight budget/ stuck with AGP for one more round, or plan to try Crossfiring them once one of them isn't enough anymore.. ED: What Tycoon mentions below about the 6600GT is also a good thing to think about; this things still blazin' past a 9800Pro (at the least, in terms of actual in-game performance), but it's also a very viable option if you plan on upgrading again this time next year or can manage the prosepected average 800-pixel resolution by that time (1024 to 1280 for 6800GT's/ the top X800's). Either way, you'll be gaming faster than I am at the moment, so whatever you decide on (unless you say, perhaps an X850XT over a similarly fast but much cheaper X800XT, or unholy-overpriced 6800U), It's probably a good decision, I say "go for it!"..

| Apex Tech God | I know its been said, but the 6600GT is an amazing card. I thought the diffrence between it and my 9800Pro would be close, but it blows it out of the water. Especially becuase this XFX card has some sort of amazing ram and Im running 580/1300. I play cs source and bf2 @ 1600x1200 with everthing on full, no AA. Freaking awesome budget card!!
