I downloaded the divx codec straight from divx.com too but still no go. Theres 2 of the avi's, one works perfect the other doesnt. Any ideas?

Download the Gordian Knot Codec pack 1.9. Haven't seen a correctly encoded movie that this pack wouldn't play.

I'm sick and tired of people singing the praises of video lan and saying "It can play anything". It's such a load of BS.

I know for a fact that VideoLan can't play the piano, banjo, harmonica, violin... the list goes on.

Back to the topic tho, yeah videolan will more than likely play it tho there are instances where it won't play a video, all be it rarely. For example some WMV's don't play correctly, realplayer files don't go at all (correct me if I'm wrong), OGM's are quite regularly pixilated when cycling though them too.

However I do actively use videolan and it seems that there's not much better. Meda Player Classic is worth a look too.

Best bet as far as codecs go is to download them seperatley and install them with a clean install of windows. The real challenge is getitng something like an mkv to play in winamp .

Hope some of that helps.
