![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | But I think the general sentiment is that, until it's released to the public, it's just an in-house design project, no more. Winning an award at this point seems like getting the gold in a race you haven't yet started. I'm sure ATI could make a GPU that's ten times as fast as the FX if they didn't have to worry about issues associated with releasing it to the public. Who's to say that the FX will be as good when released? It was certainly conceivable in 2002 that they'd have some design flaw that would force them to scale back the production version. Also, compatibility, cost effectiveness, quality, and reliability are important virtues of a card/GPU -- virtues that can't be fully evaluated until it gets widespread use. I think the awards lose a lot of their credibility by not taking these factors into account. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Actually, I see Ice Czar's point, as well as other's. But my view is that it doesn't directly impact us at all, except in the most periphrial sense. I don't buy Graphix chips, I buy Graphix Cards, so it is the whole package I care about, and only those that are on the shelves, have a price, and have been at least review a couple of times by people / websites I trust, ad infinitum As it stands even today, the FX card is not even in the running for my money. The only cards I am current considering are the 9700 and 9700 Pro. But that's just me, and that's today

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | It was an Industry Award, not a People's Choice Award. That kind of stuff goes on all the time in the automobile industry. Awards are lavished upon designs and innovations before any hit the dealer. Myself, I take it with a grain of salt. When I see real world numbers from a retail product, then I pay attention. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Yeah, I can see what you guys are saying. This award's more like a car show's "Best in Show" instead of a car-buyer-relevant award like Car and Driver's "Car of the Year" (production vehicles only). But you've gotta admit, calling the GeForce FX the "2002 GPU of the Year" is a little humorous. |
