Default 9800 Pro - Whats Up?

Hi all,

Well my 9800 PRO is a PRO (in pipelines and 256bit memory) but it doesnt have a PRO's clocks...

Screenshot...

Now im sure thats not a 9800 PRO's core and memory is it? I was looking into flashing it but that only solves the pipelines.

What can i do?

Cheers!

Yes it is a Powercolour. Just want it to be a reall 9800 Pro

There is no need for me flashing it as there are already 8 pipelines. Just need to make it a pro.

Cheers All!

Before I watercooled my sapphire 9800pro it was underclocking on stock air. Turns out the fan was coming lose causing heating. Check your fan or upgrade to better cooling, it might help.

dood reflashing WILL solve it because it will flash the bios to one with regular speeds. Overclock it to stock 9800pro speeds see if it works perfectly then flash it with a 9800pro bios. And wahlah u have a stockspeeded 9800pro

so you cant get the speeds to match the stock speeds of a pro. i'd be going to the BBB, as whichever company is packaging this as a PRO when it is clearly not so.

Lemme do some research on this, get back with you soon.

Here is some info from a review of the PowerColor 9800 Pro at [H].

Quote:
Test Setup:
ABIT IC7-G (i875p), Intel Pentium 4 3GHz “C” operating at 800MHz FSB, 2 X 512MB Corsair XMS PC3200LL TwinX Dual Channel DDR400, Maxtor 40GB ATA/133, Windows XP Professional SP1 with DirectX 9.0a.

PowerColor Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB – Operating at default speeds (325/290Mhz) and stock 9800 Pro speeds (380/340Mhz) and overclocked speeds using driver version Catalyst 3.4.

Our focus in this review was to concentrate solely on the PowerColor 9800 Pro and evaluate its performance at its shipped speed, stock 9800 Pro speeds and overclocked speeds.

According to this, alhough the stock speeds for the 9800 Pro are officially 380/340, the card ships at a default speed of 325/290. Nothing at all wrong with it, you just have to bump it up to the stock speed and there is no reason to flash it, that's just the way they set up the drivers.

Of course that notice your getting about TAA causing artifacts is the most likely reason for why your seeing bad stuff when you clock it up to stock speeds. Turn that off next time you see it, or hunt it down in your driver settings.
