Default 5700 LE and it's driving me nuts, please help

I have an ASUS motherboard (A7N8X-E Deluxe) with a pretty good processor. The chipset for this motherboard are NVIDIA nForce2 Ultra 400 - NVIDIA nForce2 MCP-T. Does that mean that I'm locked into one particular graphics card? Should I look at getting another graphics card? My graphics card is an Albatron 5700LE. When I first put the comp together the system worked like a charm. Now, when I boot up EQII it lags something awful nor can I run the error check for my hard drive. It locks up and I have to revert to a previous setting.

Please, please help!

Ok, I will reformat and reinstall everything tomorrow. Now comes an onslaught of other ?'s. What video card should I get for EQII? And I want to be able to go onto the internet without leaving a bunch of tracking cookies on my HD as well as getting spyware that secretly takes up my RAM and bugs my pc. Any ideas on that pretty please?

well for your video card, if it worked before fine with eq2, then it should work fine again when u format and reinstall, for spyware and adware id get adware and spyware search and destroy, in search and destroy u turn on the adware checky mik thingy, like an anti virus for adware, and also make sure u install sp1 and sp2 if u have xp.. helps alot and any other security updates.

Oh, did you have any suggestions on what kind of video card if this doesn't do the trick?

Also, what do you think of ZoneAlarm for a firewall and do you suggest McAfee or Norton?

Hi - I'm the one that sent you a PM in the Everquest chat room section. Anyways, I'm wondering.. how much RAM do you have installed? You really need 1 gig for Everquest II, 512mb is horrible if you shut off everything unneeded even (everything closed in the system tray, anti virus off even).

That's not the issue - 512mb just flat out won't supply the memory it needs to run Everquest smoothly. Need 1 gig of RAM for it to be happy.

yes 1 gig of ram is what you need for gaming .i had 1gig and took 512 MB out for another system the difference was amazingly sucky.

Hi there,
I have 1 gb RAM in the system. This is the processor "CPU AMD|3000/333 ATHLON XP BARTON" and as I've said the graphics card is an nVidia GeForce FX5700LE. I even put 1.5 gig into the system from another one - making it a total of 2.5 gig- I have today and it still lagged something awful.

we dont have al the specs on your system, but you say it ran fine in this setup?if you made no hardware changes i figure(guess)its software . defrag your drive .is the drive light coming on constantly while gaming, check virtual memory it seems to like two and a halftimes vm to ram ratio.weed out processes you dont need .hit cntrl-alt-del .if all else formatting the drive and reinstalling an operating system is easy with an internet connection for updates.although figuring out the problem might be a nice challenge.i had the same trouble and finally zero filled the hard drive and reinstalled win. Problem Gone ! also the 6600gt is agood card .i have 2 msi 6600gt's and thayre a good price verses performance.plus they overclock well.sorry i cant help more ////updated\\\\sorry didnt notice you were allready reinstalling your O.S(i was sleeeepy)
