Default Help - x800xl or x800 pro VIVO (both PCIe)

I need some help from Vid Pimps. I currently have an BBA x800XL PCI-e

I can also get my hands on an x800Pro Vivo PCI-e.

Please ignore any differences in price. I am concerned about performance and overclockability.

I know that the x800XL beats teh x800Pro in most test at stock speeds.

I know the x800XL doesn't OC worth a dang, but the x800Pro Vivo has teh potential of becoming X800XT.

Now the question is have:

1. Are the chances of getting the VIVO to XT the same as AGP for Pcie?
2. Overclocked, is the x800Pro faster then x800XL?

Please let me know. Any insight would greatly be appreciated.

X800XL easily!

Here's the skinny, the XL is just an under-volted X850. Volt mod that XL and give it some better cooling (Artic Cooling Silencer) and they seem to be doing REALLY well. think around 480ish on the core, they might be into the low 500's, not honetsly sure :p

just my 2 cents

Arkangyl,

Thanks for the reply.

From what I heard, the XL doesn't OC worth jack. the BBA x800xl I have doesn't have the power connector as the PowerColor x800XL. So there isn't any juice for the video card, as you would get in the x800Pro or the x850.

I know that the x800XL has more pipes, then x800Pro. But I don't know.. its all kinda a crap shoot.

Yea thats the same thing I heard. SAD, yesterday I saw a X/800 PRO for 229 I think (check newegg.com now, thats where I saw it), thats crazy low and I would get that. With your water cooling and a pecil mod the core and ram could hit stable 600/600 easy. And of course, you could try unlocking the unused pipes. Not any guarantees there though.

Just my 2 cents

P.S You mentioned water cooling in an older post so this is why I figured you might water cool your GPU as well.

Spike,

Yup.. its going to be watercooled

Also, the card is $279, not $229 . Anyway.. the Vivo has the highest rate of converting to an x800XTPE So that is what I want.

Now.. I got to hunt for my receipt for my x800xl I am remodleing the office, so not quite sure where it went.

Spike.. don't you work for CUSA? I bought my vid card under the business sale department. Do you think I can harass them for an receipt so I can refund it?

Good memory bro....

I believe you can call them and ask them for it, you will need to give them whatever info they need as well (usually payment method and your name/addess/bussiness. 9/10 times you will have no issues.

And, I transferred jobs a while back as well.

Peace

Here is a link to the Vmods for the X800 series in case you want to do that. I just bought the X800 XL, but I'm going to wait a bit before I get out my soldering iron on it.

I didnt think the VIVO's were moddable any more? could be wrong though.

As for the XL OC'age, yea, the power connector does seem to make a bit of difference there :p In theory you can add one yourself but I guess it does end up being quite a load of work

good luck with the results on that Pro, sic sic deal

spikeshot - you must have changed jobs to afford all the crazy hardware you got

screwcitypunkn - Thanks for the voltmod info. That is some great info. Have you heard how much OC improved w/ the vMods on the x800xl?

Arkangyl - well.. I hope you are wrong.. not to prove you wrong.. but just so I can get my pipes From what I understand, to make it VIVO the leave all pipes in tack.. but who knows. Nothing is every a sure thing

I'll let you know how everything goes w/ the refund If I get the receipt from cusa, and its within it the 30days.. then i'll be going Pro VIVO.. if not.. then I will stay with the x800XL.

SAD

EDIT / Update -

Ok.. called CUSA up, and it turns out my video card was purchased in February. So its beyond any refund period. Selling the video card isn't an option, because I would lose to much money. So i'm going to stick it out w/ the x800XL for now. Did a little searching on ORB, and the Pro and XL have about the same scores, even though the XL clocks are slower then teh Pro. So it seems the pipes are the issue.

So if Somehow I come across an extra $300, I'm won't be getting an PRO. Damn.. I really want VIVO, but I guess I can just install my ATI TV Wonder for that feature.
