i was thinking of going with directx 9 but im running a gf4 ti4200 card.a friend told me the gf4's wont support d9 is this true?

They do... with driver updates. On my old comp, I was running DX9 on a GeForce2 MX400... so I would hope to god your 4200 can run it. What he meant is that its not entirely hardware supported, like the marketing BS of the new high-end radeon cards are... I believe yours just emulates it so it is compatible. But I am not sure on that... I am sure that it will run, just have to have the newest drivers.

Outcast is pretty much dead on. The hardware of your card goes not have the ability to make use of all DX9 functions. But that just means that with the correct drivers, your card will ignore, or in software, emulate those functions.
