![]() | Well it was running great with the Detonator 40 until I fired up RTCW.....it does not like the OpenGL for some reason.....oh well I rolled back to detonator 30 till they fix the problem.....damn beta. I reinstalled RTCW also...didn't help.

![]() ![]() | Nice "heads-up" OMFG_dude_WTF! But I'm confused, didn't I just update to 30.82 or something like that....where did 30.xx to 39.xx go? I thought it was a joke or something when I first read the post.....LOL! Downloads done...yeah!

| Apex Tech God | Yo Joe, tons of beta detonator versions are always being programmed. Only every so often, a particular version gets submitted for WHQL certification, kind of like a service pack, I suppose. But I gotta agree, it sure didn't take 'em long to jump from 30.xx to 40.xx, only about 2 weeks or so. It took months to go from 23.xx to 29.xx, and from 29.xx to 30.xx. Odd, who knows why? Weird, I used to use this site for Detonator archives , but oddly it's way out-of-date this time around! And they still haven't updated it to the 40's. This is another good source for detonator drivers. Indeed appears as though NVidia kept all their work from 30 to 40 under tight wraps...

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | They are good. Just pulled a 10,188 with a Ti-4200 with absolutely no optimizations. Almost a 1500 increase. I could hit 10,000 before but I had to modify settings. This is off the boot. Not bad for a cheap card. |

![]() | Graphically, I don't really notice a big difference, but, if there's people out there with 1500 pt increases, it can't be bad. Surprising how long it took them to make the 30's, and now they just release the 40's two weaks later, but, that's buissiness for you, one great big surprise. |

| Apex Master Tech | Hmm, I had quite the opposite. Now this is very weird. While the test were taking place, I was gettings above 100fps (I've got a GF2 Ti 64mb, so don't laugh ), which I never saw, it got close before, but never peaked. I noticed much higher framerates AND everything seemed to run a lot smooth. The first lobby scene I noticed at the end it froze for a short period (It didn't do this before). In the end I dropped 500 points from my previous score. It may have been due to that glitch. I will test again, hopefully it'll live up to it's 25% performance increase promise.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hgoale, your results may not be too strange. When I was running an early GF3, I noticed that with every new "official" release of detonator'my performance took a little hit. I believe that they are geared towards later cards. Even though they state that their drivers support all of their releases, I don't believe it. |

I agree with BA, I don't think this is really that strange. Newer Detonators tend to only have optimizations for the latest vidcards. With my GF2 GTS, I got the best overall performance (DirectX 7 and 8, tested with 3DMark2000/2001 SE respectively) with ver. 19.40 and 23.42 I think. NVidia isn't doing any more optimizations for older cards with their newest Detonators. If you have a GF2 or even a GF3, I doubt you'll get much improvement after ver. 29.42. The only way to tell is to try 'em out and benchmark; then roll back and benchmark again to make sure that the test results are valid. If the results drop again when you roll back, you can be certain that the newer version was better. I once tested 5 different versions of Detonators (between 9.xx and 21.xx) with a GF2 GTS, and the best ones were the 9.xx and 19.40's. The 19's did better in DX8, of course.

| Apex Master Tech | But the weird thing is I got higher framerates during the benchmark Doesn't matter much, I don't notice any difference in my games at all, might be a little better anyways, but if I see one glitch I'm rolling back cause the other ones seemed just as perfect.

| Retired Admin In Charge of Death and Destruction to All those Who Oppose My World known as PimpRig | Well, I have the GF3 Ti500 and running 3DMark2001 SE with the 30.82 Detonator driver I got 7175 and with the 40.41 series beta driver got 7183 Not a very big change. The biggest deal was with the overclock I got 7609 at only 225/500 and that is pretty respectable. The user interface is done well also. So, I'm a happy Duck

| Retired Admin In Charge of Death and Destruction to All those Who Oppose My World known as PimpRig | Found something else out about the 40 driver. "31 Aug 02 Dets 40.41 Bug: NVIDIA's Brian Burke responds in regards to the Anisotropic Filtering slider issue they found in the new 40.41 Dets and how the problem is being addressed. HereÂ’s a snip: The default setting on the new driver and the old driver are both the same. The problem that is being identified is a bug that occurs when the AF settings are changed. It seems that once the AF slider is moved away from 0 to another setting, then back to 0 again, it triggers a bug that causes the control panel to misread the register setting. That setting is not point sampling, but it is something less than 0. The only way to "reset" back to true 0 is by reinstalling the driver or deleting the registry setting. We are going to fix this bug and others and submit the new BETA driver to WHQL, before the driver moves from BETA to "official".
