![]() | Currently I have a 5950 256 Ultra by XFX and I am thinking of upgrading to the 6800 Ultra 256 how much will I gain and is it a worthwhile upgrade? Should I just wait and look at going to SLI when money allows? All opinions welcome

| Apex Tech God | I'd hang on to the 5950 for now, SLI and PCIexpress as a whole is begining to settle into the market...not just enthusiast wise now, but high end aswell. Keep saving for now...this way can grab a whole new system and take down your socket A platform. BTW - I'd hold onto that 5950 if I were you...they dont sell them anymore, and they are certainly nice little cards...could be collectors item soon.

| Mastah Overclocker | Yes, a 6800U would be bit much for a ATHLON XP system to use to it's full potential. Save your money and get a DFI LP SLI, and then get a single 6800 now and another when You can afford too. ATi has there version of SLI down the road a bit..might wanna see how that does too ![]() Oh, and Nev, I realy doubt the 5950 will be much of a collectors item, there were quite a few made, and it wasn't anything spectacular compared to ATI's offerings at the time. I would say a 5800U would be worth hangin on too though, I bet you can find em on EBAY pretty cheap when they come around..I don't know anyone that ever bought those slow, overpriced dustbusters when they came out new

![]() ![]() | I always thought of the 5950 as a higher card than the 9800's mostly because of the price and benchmarks. $SOLID$Necro has the right idea here, -i'd say go for it!

| Apex Tech God | see the problem is, your system is looking too old to really show the benifit of a 6800. First thing id get is a apci express mobo that is socket 939 then get an athlon 64 3500+ Then when u get more money get your self a 6800gt or ultra

![]() | Been toying the same ideas around for a while, problem I face is my board atm has ide raid with my 4 disk array on it, switching across to a amd 64 will mean essentially scrapping my ide raid or buying a pci raid controller (I must admit I haven't looked into the data transfer rates and performance) would this be a step in the wrong direction performance wise?? again all opinions or onions if my spelling is still sucking welcome
