| Senor Cisner-Hoes | here at Hard OCP in the news, they announced that the 5800 ultra has been canceled. OH CRUEL FATE, WHY DO YOU MOCK ME??!!!! i was just about to preorder it. i crap. i just got enought moeny for it too!! does anyone know why it was cancelled!? all it does is give the radeon 9700 a greater lead when they release the R3500 does nvidia intentionally cancel this card just to sabotage my ultimate rig that i'm building? probably not, but that is a side effect. brandon | |

| Senor Cisner-Hoes | yargh i don care if it was much faster but it was FASTER! o well, i'll just wait for the r350.... :-( but that is definitely not cool on nvidia's part. it may be way expensive, but im sure that there are plenty of losers like me who were saving their hard earned dollars and cents to buy a 5800 ultra for 400 buxxors. not only because of the performance advantage, but for the bragging rites. yea, well im dissappointed in Nvidia making such a bad choice. hah, if they would have seen how ATI woulda whooped 'em, i wouldnt be suprised if they scrapped it and went straight to the nv34 or other chips. brandon | |

| Sorry about the late post on the 100,000 This is to cover the all the presold ones at best buy and compUSa and a few other companies. They will stilll make the 5800 rag cards but they are not due out for a little bit. I got these from a couple of different sorces. All I know is I am going uesday and puting one on preorder so I can get one. I just think they look awsome. Who cares about the noise. And all i care about is that it beats what I have now which is a ti 4200. I am not a big fan of ATI thats why i am sticking with the fx card. And in another 6 months to a year i will get a nother card. I am going to call a couple more companies tomorrow to confirm whether or not they are going to market the card and if so how many. Pny will have a 5800 clocked at 400/800mhz and bfg will have one clocked at 500/1000mhz. I will call Teretac and try to get a hold of Gainward to see if they are still going to release them. | ||

| That is quite true Ice. With the drivers it has right now it still smokes my ti4200. I am sure they are goign to finidh the drivers due to the fact that they are selling so many and I am sure the drivers for the nv31 and nv35 will work fine for it. But if you do not have the money to take a chance I would say stay clear of it. If you feel daring then go for it. | ||

| Hey bio the last I heard Gainward was still going to make there card. And it was supposed to be only 7db loud. I know you said that noise isnt an issue but I think it would be cool to have something quieter than a whisper. hehehe. That one would be worth looking into. | ||

| Heya goblin, i was just joking. Anyways, I don't see what all the hubbub is about the FX cards, the earliest benchmarks show that even the Radeon 9700 is faster than the 5800 and 5800 ultra. Memory bandwidth is where its at. Doesn't matter about your processors, ram, video card, etc, all of it has to go through the ram one time or anyother. | ||

| All I have to say is beta card and beta drivers. The first generation of any product is going to be worse then what comes after it. Take the Willimate P4 core and the Palmino XP core. Or even the A T-Bred core. They were all replaced by a better succesor. Dont take me wrong. Im not saying this is the final card that everyone is testing. Im saying it just a test card. Nvidia may be dumb at times but to release a card they know can not totally out preform it compitition in every catagory even by the slimest margin. My bet is that when the final shipping version is released with the drivers this card will blow by the 9700pro. Yeah I know the 9900 pro is only a month down the road but by summer the next nvida cards will be out supposedly. This was just there stepping stone to .13 micron fab. If you look ATI hasnt even gotten there yet. and if you also noticed the 9900 is hitting the core limit on speed. 400 mhz seems to be about where its going to stop without outragous cooling not unlike the FX. Well thats about it for my rant of the day. Thank you for your time...lmao! EDIT: This is not meant to be hostile to any extend. Just stating how I feel on the subject and what I think will happen from what Ive read so far. Last edited by Maverick; 10-February-03 at 01:18 PM.. | ||

| Are you sure? I dont have my copy of MaxPc in front of me so i cant confirm. I could have sworn the 9700 pro beat it in a couple tests. EDIT: I just looked at the site and saw that out of the 3 test the 9700 pro beat the FX in game 4 of 3dmark. I knew it beat it somewhere. lol....even if it was only 4 frames a sec faster.
