Default New ATI Drivers Unstable?

Yo, are the new ATI drivers unstable for anyone else?? I used to have the new ATI drivers installed, and when i did i couldnt run a 3D game for more than maybe an hour in a half or so. During that time i checked and made sure everything was cool (i got 4 fans airflow isnt a problem). When my friend suggested it was a driver, 1st thing i did was uninstall my New drivers and replaced them with Catalyst 3.6 drivers. After that i havent seen a restart, or a vpu recover since.

Also can you post what Catalyst Drivers you are using and whether or not your stable. (i dont like Catalyst 3.6 but i dont know what else to do)

What version where you having the troubles with? I wasn't so happy with the 4.12 driver release. They have a new 5.1 driver out as of 1/17/05 that I havn't had a chance to really tryout yet. I'm running it at the moment and it doesn't seem bad but as life goes my system memory is out on an RMA. I can't play any games at the moment with my backup 256 meg stick.

Yeah ive tried omega drivers, and the most recent ati drivers i still get BSOD'ed and a restart. Though i was able to play longer with the omega drivers. Right now im using Catalyst 3.9, i researched my problem a little and found somone that had the same problem and fixed it by using the 3.9's. Is it possible that im having some other kind of hardware problem. (computer only restarts or gets vpu recover with the latest ATI drivers)

What game is it you are trying to play? There is a known issue with ATI drivers and PunkBuster games. If it is a PB supported game then the issue can be resolves by using the latest Omega drivers, or any ATI driver prior to the 4.11 version.

Also what settings are you using? Do you have you AGP set to 4 or 8? Do you have Fast Write off?

I was quite impressed with the 4.11 drivers, but then the 4.12 weren't bad for me, the 5.1 are no exception, I love the 5.1 Catalyst. ( Though it is actually a revised edition of the origional 4.12) -it still registers as an edition of the 4.12.

Yeah i have my agp set to 8 and fastwrites off, the only time computer restarts with catalyst 5.1 is when i play World of Warcraft for more then an hour and a half or so(works fine with older games such as Counter-Strike). Its pissing me off though, anyone that can help me feel free to answer.

Set your AGP to 4, and see what happens. It really will make no difference in how the graphics look either.

You said you already tried the Omega drivers. Did you try changing the AGP settings?

Did you follow the proper removal/install procedures outlined on ATi's site? It is important to remove the old ATI Controll panel before removing the vid driver.

Alos use Driver Cleaner to remove any old nasties, and delete the old ATI folder from your C drive before installing the new ones.

BSOD can also be caused by unstable overclocked settings, overheating, or a flakey power supply
