Default GeForce 4 Ti4200 cooling fan stopped working

I just noticed today that the cooling fan on my video card isn't working.

I have no idea how long it's been this way, but needless to say I was alarmed. Upon inspection, the fan will turn if I force it, but there is something internal it's grinding against.

Anyone know if I'm screwed or could I basically keep using this card without the cooling fan? Is heat really a big issue on the Ti4200? Is it easy to replace the cooling fan on a video card?

Thanks

Well, to be on the safe side, you should probably replace the cooler. Either that or have a side intake fan blowing on the video card. I have both options and my card runs quite cool. Ti4200's generally do not produce that much heat.

get some canned air and see if you can blow whatever is clogging in there out. this is only a temporary thing though so i would still recommend getting a new cooler for it.

I lost up a 4600 and I still have the stock cooler from LeadTek, which seems to be very good, indeed. It has two fans and a large ram sink. I think it will work with the 4200. Let me know if you are interested.

Here is a link to a card that has the same cooler.

I lost the fan in my 4200ti that I use to web surf with and replaced it with a Zalman heatpipe. No worries about losing another fan there. It runs cool to the touch with no fan.
