| Apex Techie Wannabe | Hello everyone, I stumbled on to your forum and maybe somebody could help me. I have a ATI 9800 XT video card in my computer and in the process of my monthly cleaning I noticed the fan wasn't turning very fast. It also was making a growling noise. I removed the card and cleaned it thoroughly and now it is running somewhat faster. I e mailed ATI and they said to send it in for repair. I really don't want to tie up my computer for weeks waiting for a new fan to be installed. I could install an aftermarket fan/heatsink or just send it in and wait. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I could look through my junk pile and see if there are any video cards waiting for me to use. Thanks | |

| I need to Confirm with email | I know that cooler's for regular 9800 Pro's don't fit on 9800 Pro AiW's... but 9800 Pro AiW Coolers do fit on regular 9800 Pro's (it should be enough cooling, right?) Sneakers, definately replace it with an Arctic Silencer. A slow fan can cause your card to overheat and possibly burn up. | |

| Apex Techie Wannabe | I sent my ATI 9800 XT back to ATI as it is still in warranty. Very quick service, sent it via USPS on Jan 29, picked it up today from FEDEX Feb 5. Package I received was not the way I had shipped my card to them. I shipped in original cardboard box with two inches of foam to protect video card. I received the card in a bubble wrap bag with one quarter inch of foam on each side. The bracket that attaches to the back of the case was bent and misshapen. The bag or the enclosed cardboard bod don't look damaged. Who is to blame for the damaged card? I did not install card to verify whether it works or not. Do I risk damaging my computer to see if it works? I think not! I am not happy with the end result. I guess e mail and pics will have to be sent to ATI. Should I twist their arm and see what I can get from them? Upgrade etc? Or just be happy with another possibly bad card. | |

| Apex Tech Fanatic Supreme | Well I personally wouldn't have sent the card back to them just for them to replace it with another stock fan but that is too late for you. When you send in your card to even just fix your fan many times they just send you back a refurbished card and not your original. Testing it in your system will not damage your system. | |
