Default Best Nvidia drivers?

Ive been on a mission to maximize the performance from my 6800gt and have been choosing drivers very carefully. from what ive heard the 70.20 drivers are the best overall but with them and coolbits i cannot oc my card past stock when before i could oc to 420/1.12

anyone have some insight as to what could have gone wrong?

EDIT: this is on a fresh install, mobile axp 2500+ @ 2.4ghz, 6800gt and corsair 3200. Was a previous ATI card installed but reinstalled XP with nvida drivers to prevent any issues with drivers.

had a similar problem with coolbits and 71.20. FOr the life of me the card would not overclock via coolbits. I used Rivatuner and it was fine. After reinstalling the driver, it worked with coolbits again. Makes me think that I screwed up the registry edit somehow, which is weird. Anyway, I'd try reisntalling the driver and then redoing the reg edit for coolbits.

Using 71.20 on my 5950 ultra atm, for some good reviews and all the drivers for downloading I use www.guru3d.com and have done for years, give them a go always worked wonders for me in the past

heres a little hint for loud fans, if you have a little cooking oil then you can take a few drops and put them in the fan! either that or oil!

iI would but its more that it's the air that the stock fan is actually pushing for once. Stock fan pushing air? yeah what am i thinking! This time it actually is just the 6800gt's heatsink is poorly disgned IMO. A 3rd party one is on the way soon hopefully.

thanks for the tip though!

I've tried a few different drivers and my best came from the 67.71 and 67.22 also this was with a 2500 mobile, NF7, and 6800 non ultra. Also abuddy of mine is running the 71.80 and is working very well but when I tried it, the results were bad. Hope this can help you out a little.
