Default PCI Video Cards

Hey guys.

I have a friend without an AGP slot. No worries, the rest of the machine is nice. We're looking at upgrading his video card, and we need to know the best PCI video card we can get.

PCI, not PCI-X.

We found an FX5700, but we're looking to see if we can do better.

Thanks.

That sounds like it might be it, the newest PCI graphics card I've ever seen was definately a GeForceFX something or other. ATi had stopped updating their PCI line long before then.

A more interesting question might be "Whats the best ISA video card... EVER?" (not the kind that have to use both PCI and ISA at the same time)... I have a 486 that needs pimping. I'm not sure if it has any of the enhancements they added into ISA prior to PCI coming out but I can look into it. Luckily it has 3 16-bit ports instead of the older 8-bit (shorter) ones.

My bad, it's a FX5700LE - Basically a 5200 chipset.

Would he be better off just buying the straight 5200? Money isnt an issue.

If money isn't an issue, why not get a new motherboard with an agp slot?

The 9200 is a joke of a card compared to the FX5200. I have personally benchmarked both on my gaming rig and the FX5200 blows the living hell out of the 9200.

Yeah, the FX is a better card

When I said money isnt an issue, I meant that in the sense that he's got 200 bucks, so he's not limited to a GF2, or something cheap.

Thanks

This Card is a 256 mb PCI card, it seems pretty nice, personally I prefer ATI to Nvidia, I dont quite know why... but I just do

edit:Thats a canadian site btw, so you might have to go on www.pricegrabber.com and find it, it's the card my friend uses and he gets pretty good graphics (Counter-Strike source on medium-low quality etc)

But you should really look into upgrading to an AGP motherboard, or even better a 775 slot PCI-X.

Seeing as you posted a canadian site for Tigerdirect.......you go to the normal tigerdirect.com and pull up
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...946&CatId=1603

Seeing as I like newegg and zipzoomfly.... ZZF has it for 94.00 and free shipping
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...uctCode=320884

Never heard of info-tek, but they have the card for 99.00+ 1.99 S/H
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...240-035&depa=1

Now if you go for the FX5200 which people say is better....
Newegg: Chaintech w/ 256 MB @ 97.00
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...145-087&depa=1

Chaintech w/ 128MB
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...145-055&depa=1

or the 5700LE that you said you found before:
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...140-041&depa=1
