![]() | Well I have an Evga 6800 and I'm having some problems. I softmodded the card with the latest version of Rivatuner and the latest official Nvidia drivers and everything runs flawlessly with no artifacts. Okay so here is my problem. I go to run CS Source and I was running everything on "High" at 1152 by 864. I keep getting insane lag. At first I thought it was my connection and I checked only to see a ping of about 37. After several tests, my internet is not the problem. Then I realized that the card wasnt rendering fast enough, I was getting the lag but my teammates were not. I used the "net graph" whatever it is called command in the console and pulled up my FPS. I noticed that when I get the lag, my FPS is hitting about 10. So the problem is in fact my videocard. I can run 1152x864 at anywhere from 50 FPS to 100FPS no prob, so why is it suddenly dropping to 10????? It would be absolutley perfect for a minute or two, and then get so bad that I could not move. I thought maybe It was the fact that I was using a high screen resolution, so I dropped it to 1024 and still had the same problems despite having better frames per second when working normally. I would go from 100 down to 10FPS, and then 2 seconds later back up to 100FPS. Why would a card run 100FPS consistantly and then suddenly keep dropping down to 10 and then back up? I dont think heat is the problem because the card has not been overclocked and I have several fans around it. Could it be inconsistant voltage? On a side note, I run WoW at 1152x864 with everthing maxed and my refresh rates are set at 75 hertz flawlessly. Any suggestions? This is killing me in important matches. |

| Apex Tech God | In my experience Steam offering lately have had more bugs then a $2 whore. Every "patch" they release breaks my damn game for 3 days till I can find a way to circumvent it. If you can run 3dmark03 or 05 for a couple hours without artifacts then I would rule out heat but atleast try it. Is there any known problems with your drivers and CSS - check the web for known issues. My guess it that if you can play other games fine and not CSS than they are at fault - grab a Steam Tech Support ticket and get in line. For comparison I run CSS at 1280x1024 on my 5900xt at an average of 75 fps with occasional dip to 50 at explosions. |

| Apex Master Tech | I have the PNY 6800 and I can't tell you in-game FPS, but when I runt he CS time demo I get 106 FPS. Everyone I know says their FPS drops around 40 FPS from what they get in the demo in game. I run: 1024x768 High 4x / 8x The only time I have lag is when the server I'm on hiccups or my roomies are playing online as well. I'll get my console fixed so I can check my in game FPS and get back to ya. |

| Apex Tech Fanatic | Eh, just installed my 6800 GT last nite. using net_graph 3, i'm getting around 46-72 fps and it varies lol. I dont know why, but others have reported getting 200fps on CS: Source. Maybe it has to do with lag? I dunno, but my ping was 74. Mouse filtering was on, but i never have vsync on.

![]() | thanks for the replies. Yeah net_graph 3 had me running smooth at about 85 average today with no problems for a while, but then it started again. The weird thing is, it doesnt seem to drop when I am bogging it down. By that I mean that the FPS drops dont occur when there is an explosion or anything else that would normally strain your videocard. Yesterday it did it as i was standing at the A bomb site on dust2. Strange thing was, all the other players were on the other side of the map. No shooting, no explosions....10FPS......Then, in a crowded area with explosions, ran a perfect 80FPS.....I just dont get it sometimes. Im gonna try messing around with some other settings but hopefully it is just a driver problem or something. I wanted to clarify that when it happens net graph CLAIMS it to be 10FPS, trust me, it's more like 2FPS. |

I strongly agree. I got the game the other day with my Christmas gift card and I am very dissapointed. Running the specs in my sig I have had nothing but issues. I can play 5-30 minutes at a time before it gets kicked back to the desktop (but I can play NFSU2, COD, UT 2003, run prime 95, 3d mark 01,03,05 and aquamark, also I use all my CAD/CAM programs all day long on this machine with out an error). So I know it has to be the game. Also the Yellow water is driving me nuts (they said it was a known issue with the 6800 cards but they haven't fixed it yet?). Also Steam tech support told me to move my sound card into the top three pci slots becuase having it in a lower one caused my issues, Well I'm still waiting for there response on how to move my onboard sound into the top three pci slots...

![]() | Well I wanted to post back to you guys after a while. I have tried everything imaginable to fix this problem. I realized after posting that I ONLY have the problems in Dust and Dust2 maps. I would assume that the problem is the game, yet I haven't found anyone with the same problems as I have. This is making CAL scrims nearly impossible and my teammates now hate my computer... |

![]() | I'm completely new to this forum and this might be my only post to be honest, but I have been having the exact same problems as hazardous, I'll be playing and getting an average of like 80-90 fps then at a completely random moment, i remember experiencing most right after respawning, my fps will drop down to around 10, and its crashed the game once, because it was the first time. I just quit the game every time it does it, I play for maybe 20 minutes and it happens everytime i play, im not really computer savvy so... i dont really wanna try and tweak with any settings but i was hoping for some advise maybe on what i could do..... |

| At-Whore | How much RAM does your computer have? I would get that all the time in Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 when I had 512MB in my computer. Upgrading to 1GB solved it. Also, try defragging your hard drives. That is usually what causes "hitching", is slow load times for textures and objects.

| a.k.a., Frank Bullitt | FPS drops like that (if there sporadic) could be just the map and who's playing............As your playing, pull up the player list and see what every-ones ping is.................All it takes is one player running a high ping to throw off everyone else.........If every-ones ping is 140 or less, then I'd try some other drivers like Omegas to see if that helps........... http://www.omegadrivers.net/

| Apex Tech Fanatic | i run a XFX 6800 GT Oced past ultra speed. everything set on high and 1280/1024 reso. i never go below 100FPS on any map, with some maps topping at over 170FPS. i woudl check your cmdrate. it should be at 20. i dont remember the exact command for it, but if you put in CM you should be able to search thru the commands to it. worst case senerio is reinstall CS:S. if still happens, maybe reinstall OS as well. done it many times myself just to make 1 game work |

please show me ingame action pics of that please...that just seems questionable....and i mean with like tons of people shooting and stuff...not just looking at a wall or walking around. Also, do you have all eye candy turned on in DX9? or is your card overclocked like hell. I get about 70-90 playing on a 40 man map and drop down to 30 when everyone is in a shootout when i'm looking at them.....i just want picture proof that you get that in action sequences. | |||||||||||||||||||||||

| Apex Tech Fanatic Supreme | its been six days now...hmm..maybe someone was "mistaken" on their high claims about their FPS ![]() i mean, i don't know of ANYONE with a current computer set-up and high powered video card that can get that. CS:S is just crappily coded to do it. Its amazing that some games run FLAWLESSLY that are much newer and have lots more eye candy, yet give it a taste of CS:S and the game will bring that system to its knees begging for mercy. I'm still calling "exaggeration" on supersteves claim of 140-180fps....but, maybe he was talking about 1.6 and not Source... |

| At-Whore | Actually, my compuer runs CS:S really good. On the Source stress test, I usually get 75-80fps at 1600x1200 4xAA 16xAF all high details. I can only get 140+ if I run it at like 1024x768 or so.
