I had an ATI vid card once and I have disliked them since then. I have liked Nvidia for quite some time now and I am still running a GeForce 2 TI from ages ago. I just finally purchased a BFG NVidia Geforce FX 5900XT. I just can't wait for it too get here! Another reason i dislike ATI is there drivers, Such a pain in the cahoots.

Don't be shy to tryout a new brand of a video card! You just might like what you see when you get that GeForce in your system!

As far as the refurb deal. I'm sure they will offer a warranty on the item.

Well I would avoid the Pro at all cost as a hardmod only works 2/5 times successfully. The issue is with the 16 piplines not ever fully waking up, and they can cause issues with vertical tearing, artifacting, and lock ups/crashes.

The X/800 XT is an amazing card. I love it to death. I got an Asus one with a MUCH better stock heatsink on it and the thing overclocks pretty well if I do say so myself at 555 core, 516-550 ram. That is 60 over stock on core, and 50 over stock on ram. My results have varied on the RAM and the situation I was in.

But if I were you I would wait until I figured out what my next major upgrade is goign to be. I say this because if you get an AGP GPU right now, you are going to be stuck when you go to upgrade to N-force 4 or anythign Intel has as they BOTH are all PCI-E or almost all.

If you are staying with your system for another year, I would go with a X/800 XT AGP. But if you plan to upgrade you mobo/CPU i would go with a 6800 GT PCI-E. That way if you deciede you want SLI, you are almost set for it.

THough, rumors are rampant about ATI cards being able to run SLI without a bridge now. I am going to have to try it as I got 2 X/800 XT's, but one is PE and one is not. (the ASUS one) adn an ASUS SLI mobo on the way. I am blessed!

Well I hope you like the info. This is one of 4 threads in my refresh list at this hour in the morning.

Take a look at www.tomshardware.com that site will give you all the benches of ati and nvidia cards. (ItÂ’s on the front page)

Just on a side note, it's almost common knowledge that Tom's Hardware is biased and messes with benchmarks and reviews.

Tom's Hardware has never messed with bechmarks. That's just a flatout lie. Not that NoSlak is a liar. He's just misinformed and spreading misinformation. If I were you I would check out a lot of popular review sites and judge for yourself. A forum isn't the best place to look. There are to many fanboys from each side so every opinion is biased. Go to Hardocp.com, tomshardware.com, anatech.com, extremetech.com . If they don't have reviews then check out their links. Do a Google search and find some reviews. After researching it yourself you'll feel better about your decision. All of the review sights about have all been ati or nvidia fans at one time or another. It depends on who has the better card, not just because they like the company. Hardocp is exceptional in this catagory. They'll run games using fraps through specific areas of a game with multiple cards at various resolutions and give you a "real world" representative of a cards performance. And they usually run a few standard benchmarks also. Overclockability is usually included also.
They've all been AMD or Intel fan's at one time or another to. Aviod site's with a company related name or slogan and you'll get the true scoop. To get the best opinion just sift out the numbers that just don't match up close with the others sites. They'll all be a little different but they should all be close. One company may test with AMD and another with Intel. But the video performance between two cards should be approx. the same percentage one way or another

As for the refurb, I wouldn't do it. The warranty is crap.

Quote:
Refurbished Products
Newegg.com offers a 15-day refund warranty on all refurbished merchandise.

That's barely enough time to burn it in, much less make sure it won't eventually crap if you OC it.

I'll stay out of the which is better argument, because it's really up to you and what you want to get out of the card. Some will say ATI, some will say Nvidia.
