Default Scrolling effect...

Just updated my computer with some new RAM...had some problems but I got those fixed pretty quickly.

Now, here's my problem. Ever since then, I get this "scrolling" effect when I use my mouse wheel, page up/down, or use the arrow keys. I'll hit the page down/up key once and it's like the screen "redraws" itself...it's like it's pulling a window shade down over the screen. Never happened before, but it's pretty annoying, actually.

It's hard to explain what I'm talking about but that about as best as a description that I can get.

Any ideas?

Yeah, i've had that happen ( or something unexplainably similar), usually re-installing your videocard's drivers will fix it.

Yes, reinstall vid card drivers. Whenever I do a fresh install and before I install the latest Omega drivers I always have that issue.

It's 100% new drivers

O.K., brain fart over with.

Stupid me forgot to go in and uninstall the devices after I installed the driver for them. After I uninstalled the devices, I used the "Add Hardware" wizard and now everything is okey dokey.

Thanks again to all for helping me out.

Well, I thought it was okey dokey but I was wrong.

Screw this...I'm doing a clean install this week.

You could install TweakUI and play with the mouse-wheel settings and see if that helps, long shot, but might work.

Question

Before I do my clean install, I was just wondering about this problem...

I went ahead and installed the ATi drivers for the 9800XT and rebooted like you're supposed to. However, after the first flash of the WinXP green status bar, I get no signal on the monitor for about 10 seconds, then the computer reboots itself. The only way I can get it started up is to use the last known good configuration.

Went back in and tried to uninstall the ATi drivers but they were not found. So then I thought that I would try to use the Omega drivers. Same story on the reboot.

Looking in my device manager, I'm seeing that the 9800 Primary and Secondary are there, but they have the yellow "not working" icon. After installing the drivers, I've uninstalled both of the displays and did a scan for new hardware. With the ATi drivers, it came back 9800 P/S with the yellow icon and with the Omega it doesn't come back at all except for a VGA display adapter.

Any reason why my computer would do the reboot on starting up after I've installed the display drivers? Either way, I'm doing a clean install but I was just curious.

Thanks,

Rob
