Default New Card?

My System:
AMD fx-53
Asus SK8v
80 Gig WD IDE
1 gig OCZ DDR
Geforce Ti4600
XP-120 Heatsink
6 80 mm (2 in, 2 out, 2 over heatsink)
600 watt PSU

Now my question...I've been looking into buying an ATI x800 XT PE...but is there any other less pricy alternative for equal performance? Is there any way to jack up my current card? And fainlly...should I wait for the x850, or even that Gigabyte SLI? Thanks for any advice!

Pricewatch lists the ATI 800XT PE at $532, That is a large chunk of change for something that will be out of date in a short time.

The 6800Ultra is slightly cheaper at 484$ and is pretty mutch equal to the ATI, but also has PS3 support.

A 6800GT 256MB for 380$ is basically the same as the 16 pipe Ultra, it can usually be overclocked to Ultra speed, probably what I would get for that system.

For about the same price as the GT you can get the 12 pipe X-800Pro ( I like mine) but the NVIDIA is probably a better buy.
If you can find a VIVO X800 Pro, they can usually be modded into a 16 pipeline XT with a bios change.

Note: SLI would be sweet, but the cost is going to kill ya!
You will need a new motherboard (Wich are available now in limited quantities) and 2 high end video cards for it to be worth the change over.

id go for the 6800 GT, as Solid said itd be the better buy, it ocs on stock cooling to about ultra speeds and itll pown. the extra 200 bucks for that extra 5 fps isnt worth it in my book. spend it on watercooling or new memory, or whatever floats your boat, maybe some funjuns? i know id grab a couple bags lol.
