| Apex Techie Wannabe | I may have hit a brick wall here, but has anyone gotten the ATI 9800 (any version) to work with either a Soyo MB with the Intel 875 chipset, or ANY MB with that chipset? Soyo acknowledges an "incompatibility" issue with the entire Radeon line with thier MB, but I am using the ATI AIW 9700 right now. It seems odd that the 9800 won't work. BTW - the problem with the 9800 is a blank screen beginning at POST and it never changes. Any recommendations? Soyo P4I875P Dragon 2 V1.0 Black Label 1G mem No overclocking until I get this figured out thanks all, jt | |

| Apex Techie Wannabe | Thanks corruptjoker, I thought I would hear that... Looks like a Soyo goat rodeo. I have not heard from them in 3 days...and ATI is being equally silent. I have tried everything I can think of, even things that don't make sense (like aperture settings). Plus, I also tried a different 9800 card, and got the same results. Open to suggestions - including explosives. later, jt | |

| Apex Techie Wannabe | Thanks droeblek9, good suggestion. I did blow away all drivers before installing the 9800. I even used the ATI "clean out" utility to ensure everything was removed. Probably did not need to since my old card was a 9700, and I was moving to a 9800. But, since I am getting a blank screen even during POST, I doubt that the drivers have even come into play at that point. Found in another forum that this MoBo and the 9800 have a problem with some power supplies. Several top brands have exhibited the problem...(I am running an Antec True Power 480), but some people have gotten the card to work using other power supplies. Soyo says THEIR Raptor PS works with the MoBo and 9800 combo...imagine that. I still have a hard time believing it, but I am going to pick up a Raptor at Micro Center today and try it as that would be my cheapest way out at this time...unless a real fix comes around. Will update. later, jt | |

Glad you got it working........I also dont understand what the Soyo PSU does to make your setup work when the others dont. Had you tried a different PSU before buying the Soyo one??? Im wondering if it was just a bad PSU all together and not so much a compatibility problem.

| Apex Techie Wannabe | Well maybe I spoke too soon.... I have tried Antec True Power 430W and 380W power supplies and the 9800 failed to POST on both. I installed the Soyo Raptor and the ATI 9800 worked, even through both hard and cold reboots. However, tonight I shut off the PC to pull some memory, and even with the Soyo PS installed, I could not get the 9800 to work. I reinstalled my ATI 9700 (which has worked with both the Raptor and Antec power supplies) and the world is fine again. So, I think there is a problem with the SOYO I875 motherboards and the Radeon 9800 board. I am done trying to debug this for SOYO and ATI... Right now I am going to stick with the MB because it has the RAID and I/O options and other features I am looking for. As a not so slight side note, one of the SOYO power supplies shorted across one of the 12V floppy connector leads. Ever smelled melting plastic inside your case - kinda makes you nervous. Also the 4 second delay on my power off button gave the connector just enough time to actually ignite! For a couple of seconds, my PC was literally blazing. Needless to say I am yanking the SOYO power supplies out of my machines and going back to Antec. later, jt | |

| Apex Techie Wannabe | I know I am a bit late on this, so maybe you found a solution. I too have the same problems with a 9800Pro. Of course the Soyo group was so helpful :S. I tried what you had done with a new PSU. Also RMA'd the vid card and PSU. The only workaround I found was the following, which cost about the same as a new PSU. Here it goes. - Get a cheap PCI vid card, I used an MX420. - Install and boot. In BIOS set to PCI. In windows do not install drivers. I am using XP Pro -DL the CAT drivers, and shut down. - Install ATI card and boot. Windows should see the card. Then install CAT drivers. I did use a drive cleaner to remove any nvidia drivers just to be safe. Shutdown - Reboot and in BIOS set to AGP. - In windows disable the nvidia card. I have had this setup for about 6 months. Leave the PCI card installed too. I did try to remove later but ran into problems again, so just leave it in there. Hope this helps someone. | |

| Apex Techie Wannabe | I cant be much help except tell you i have this same board and went for a 6600gt card instead of ati. never had a single problem with it. i actually really like this mobo. I think it looks cool and is easy to mess around with. i dont like soyo though. their support sucks and I never got my rebates I was supposed to for this board. anyway, hope you get the problem taken care of. | |

I finally got my rebates. It took ten months. IMO what finally tipped the scales is entering a complaint with the BBB. After that I had the checks in 6 weeks.
