| As many of you may or may not know, I recently got a GeCube Radeon 9600 Pro. Yeah Ive had some probs with some particular game, but I have to say it runs halo nicely when overclocked. Yesterday I got it up from 200 Mhz (400 DDR) to about 245 Mhz. Then I started getting artifacts so I backed down to about 240...40 mhz gain...ehh..I heard this card could go much faster and is a good OCer. I also looked up the mem but I couldnt figure out the max clock speed. The mem type is the 200 Mhz kind. http://www.hynix.com/datasheet/eng/d...DU281622ET.jsp thats the data sheet. Thing is I want higher, and even if I overclock my Core speed just a little I start getting artifacts. Plus I heard theres not enough power going to the card and one would have to connect a fdd connecter to get more power. Well anyway, before I even got the card I had researched volt modding. http://www.rojakpot.com/default.aspx...ar1=116&var2=0 Prob is...my board looks NOTHING like that and I got the Gecube 9600 pro....it doesnt even have the same chips....but I did find some things that might help by looking on my own board (bottom) AMS1117- Seems like a voltage regulator. Found data sheet. 1.5, and 1.8 selectable voltages. Couldnt be core regulator? (btw I have 2 on this board) 411 (below it says t14 and below that says N03 and has ON on the upper right hand corner)- couldnt find data sheet. It is near the mem. So I assume it must regulate Vmem. FST3257- Multiplexer. Didnt pay much attention to this cause of the word multiplexior, and because its for logic functions not Voltage regulation (top of board) AD86 (theres a 3CK uder it so I dont know if it would be AD863CK)- probably analog to digital converter. 15171 (74CH under it)- I have no clue what it is..its an 8pin smd chip. And from what ive just learned about logic chips..it must be somekind of TTL gate... CH is a manufactoring code..if it had CH in the middle then yes it would have been CMOS. now...2 chips C4406(t41 under that, N03 under that), and C4401 (T40 under that and N02R under that)- no clue either has the ON symbol in the upper right hand corner. and one last chip which is almost under the hsf...25PQ5AV ( i thought the Q was a 0..it could be I cant see that one letter) and below it says 9347B-maybe vcore..near the core i I mean I could go around and poke my vd card but that will take too long.. and one more thing my board has the numbers R96/9550 Rev 1.0 on it. Sounds like a core regulator, since it has those voltages. One regulator is for the core, and one is for the memory. Find the memory regulator, and do the variable resistor mod to it. That's a good guide, read it closely. Maybe google those regulators, and find what pin you need to tap into, since it's different than the sites regulator.
Are you sure you don't have a 9600 or a 9550? The 9600 pro/XT has 300mhz ram. I'm going to do a volt mod soon, my memory is 260mhz stable without ramsinks. Goodluck

| I do have a 9600 pro and I do have pics to of it.. hmm and also about the regulators, if I have the fixed version I can still adjust it right? Ive heard with linear regs u can do it..Ive seen ppl get up to 12 volts or so with a 7805 linear reg by using a pot. and a thing Ive noticed..the hsf doesnt get very hot...lol which means Vcore is probably..very low.... ga thnx luck to u to I'm about to put this puppy back in and start measuring around the regs... | ||

A 9600pro has memory speeds of 300mhz, a 9550/9600 has 200mhz memory. Sounds to me like you may have gotten cheated. What is your stock core clock? That model number looks fishy too, just my $.02

| Around 398 MHZ -rounded..400 MHz and I just checked my voltages. On one of the regulators I get 1.5 Out, on the other one I get 1.8 out. Which one should I go by? and I kinda couldnt find the ground pin lol but I did find something that got a couple mV's. and onthe input pin there is 3.3 volts going in.. And on one of the 411 chips ( I think they could be mosfets) I get 5 v on one pin and 3.28 volts on another... EDIT: but what if it is a 9600 pro and the manufactor just lowered everything? | ||

I don't like the idea of your memory being at 200mhz, that shouldn't happen on a 9600pro or XT. That is a 9600pro core clock though, maybe they overclocked a 9600 core, and sold it as a 9600 pro. Oh well, even more of a reason to volt mod .You can connect it to any ground, just find a ground, and ground it. That website you linked to, should name some good grounds. Remember to have good cooling on your ram before you go adding voltage. As for the regulators, I don't know which one is for memory and which one is for core, I'll take a look into it when I get home. You are making me want to go buy some variable resistors ![]() EDIT: The manufacturer most likely took a 9600, overclocked it from 325mhz to 400mhz, and sold it as a 9600pro, with 200mhz ram. This can happen quite often if you aren't careful. You basically spent more money for something that costs less. Either RMA it, or voltmod it.

| and hhehe....stock speeds for a 9600 pro are 300 eh..heh well I'm almost there....hmm I might add a variable resistor from the input or wait between that and the ground chip...hmm.... and if I could get it up to 300..+ then ive probably saved myself money... and then get the fps I am supposed to... (in ut2k4 I get only 17 fps even when OC'd) | ||

| I did..=X when the game starts I get excellent fps (like 30-35) then as soon as the game starts....down to 17 -20 fps .....well if u play ONS that is. On halo its fine.... even in the big open areas I get at least 25 + fps 40 even...anyway I just measured some more. I found where Vmem is located. There is one that is 2.6 and one that is 2.5 volts. I am gonna go with the 2.6 volts..cause I think memory has to supplies and one needs to be higher than the other. The highest one is the real Vmem I think. and i know the agp option in the bios? how come no matter what I change that to the voltage wheres I measured doesnt change? and btw I paid $109 for the card. I searched every where else and the card ran for about $120+ Last edited by Nerdz; 11-October-04 at 01:58 PM. | ||

| dude if u overclock ur card just a tad and get artifacts then u got a bad core. RMA that crap dude i got my 9600pro to 525mhz core and left her there for ever just chugging away. My memroy i had was at 350 which have me 700 which kicked ass. And all of this was with the stock normal litttle black cooler that comes on ati r9600pros and no ramsinks or volt mods. Like i said rma that crap or something | ||

| Didn't you read? He got some crap version with 200mhz ram, like the 9600np and 9550. 9600pro's have 300mhz ram, you overclocked it 50mhz. Nothing special. He overclocked his 40mhz. They just ripped him off, and have him a rebranded 9550/9600. Look at the model number he gave me. (R96/9550 Rev 1.0) The only way to get his money's worth is to volt mod, or RMA like you said. Wish you luck. | ||

| i wasnt saying that i was saying he can varly overclock his core without artifacts. DIDNT YOU READ? i read the memory and he cant do crap. But the core seems like crap LIKE I SAID. And i could go to 380 with my mem but i didnt want to keep it on my max. Like i said rma it because the 9600 core should go uch farther then that | ||

I'm not trying to argue, but he didn't even mention anything about overclocking the core, only the memory. Which is 200mhz instead of the normal 300mhz pro speeds. ![]()

| =/ No matter what I OC to I still get no increased performance in ut2k4..I benchmarked it using 3dsmark2001SE and I get excellent fps!!!. I think its the game...it will start out really fast..then.just go down to 17 and sit there..then just keep going down..and this is on LOW DETAIL and 640x480!!! and it does the same.. I sat there like wtf is your problem and..I worked on my core and mem a bit more..... 349 Mhz for mem, 480Mhz for core..I dont remeber exactly... | ||
