Default 6800/6600 series cards

Im presently running a GF4 Ti4600 - is that actually worth anything nowadays??

Anyway, I have been hearing things about the 6800 series cards from Nvidia, good things. I wonder what the general feelings are on this forum about them?

I am also thinking about the 6600GT card, but am worries cause its seems a cut down version of the 6800 (only 128bit, 12 pipes). As I am on a limited budget is this card worth getting instead of a 6800? What would the performance hit be in something like HL2 based on my system. I would like to run the game maxxed out

NV7-S REV. 2
Barton 2500XP (Oc'd to 2100Mhz)
1GB Kingston Hyper X 333MHz
GF4 Ti4600

Cheers
Graham

one of the best buys you can get right now for affordable and performing is the standard 6800 (non ultra or gt). It's well worth the money if you don't want to invest in a more powerful card.

both will beat ANY older gen card (like the ones you listed). The 6800 is a very nice card for the money. I cannot personally find any 6600 series cards on the market. If you can and they are less than $200 thats amazing for the money.

The 6600 seems to be almost on par with the 6800 in Doom 3 and slightly above the 9800 XT in older games (where the 6800 takes a more commanding lead).

either card ought do you just fine, basically get the best one you can afford!

get the 6600gt with 256mg, its about as fast as the 6800 and it ahs more memory which is a MUST nowadays. And in late october the 660 agp version is out. Its ganna bea a huge seller. But dont count out the x700 people, it slaps te 6600 around for 30 bucks less

Nvflash 4.46 and omni extreme bios editor if u can't find them online e-mail me I can send them to you.

Use nvflash 4.46 .... 5.20 doesn't work to make a copy of your bios.
after you make copy (back-up command nvflash) use omni extreme bios editor to open the copy of your bios.
make the changes (small ones at first) save file as oc.rom any name you want. I did oc.rom, oc1.rom, oc2.rom and so on.
Never changing my back-up copy so I could flash back to the stock bios.

this site is not working right but maybe try later
