Return/sell the Celeron while your there.
You don't seem like the overclocking type so get something between a 2.4C~3.0C, fastest you can afford.

and if the budget allows it, get some matched ram.....2 x 256 is more than enough for gaming, all that i have never had a problem yet.....

Tek said get a 2.4C model. The ones I see like this only have 512 megs of L2 cache. Is there an advantage to having a 1 meg cache? Or does it not really matter?

No, I said get the fastest you can afford. It would be wise to buy online at newegg.com, cheaper.
Here's a list.

Some matched 2x256MB CAS2 PC3200 will also dramatically increase your score, SyncFSB.
I suggest THIS.

i will agree with tex there, i have the much sought after Level 2 PC3500 2 x 256.....Mushkin makes some great memory, then next to them i would suggest corsair.....

Well folks I have slain the dragon....err fixed the problem.

I bought a 2.8 GHZ P4 with Hyperthreading and 1 meg of L2 cache.

I am scoring close to 16000 in 3dmark2001 now without overclocking. Thanks for all your help guys!

Now I can rejoice in the greatness of ATI ;-)

Send that Celeron to me and I'll make it an excellent keychain or steel-wool pad replacement.

Enjoy the real pentium 4 processor.

Funny you should mention that I have did it to my old Pentium 100 mhz processor LOL.

I sold it to a buddy of mine for 60 bucks. He is going to make a fileserver to hold....files and use it to host a Ventrilo server lol. So I guess its a win-win situation

1mb L2, looks like a Prescottt (not that it matters) but if you do try upping the FSB again be VERY careful as that baby runs HOT!

Cant beleive nobody suggested flashing to an XT he doesn't sound adventerous enough to try but ill at least throw it out there i think there was a link in anomyous definitive to all things modding just think about it

first we needed to get his machine running at tip top before we try anything else.....so even the thought of flashing his videocard is not in the cards. when he decides he wants to go faster then we can go from there. but until then....nope no flashy flashy......
