Default Multiple Monitors

I'm just real interested in how this works, i've seen pictures of some guys with like 3 monitors on one rig and the monitors show different things on them. How does this work, i have a dual monitor card but i haven't got a clue how i would go about using this option, is there like special software that is needed? have any of you guys got any links to how this works or how to set it up. also, if any of you guys have multiple monitor setups can u post ur pics please.

much apreciated.

And for more multiple monitor settings, try using the program "UltraMon".

For three moniters you would need the matrox card or a seprate PCI graphics card for a third moniter. Controlling moniters is a hardware issue not software.

I was kinda wondering about this, too. I've been wanting to do a search on the 'net about it, but just haven't had time in the past two weeks to do it.

For example, I have a Radeon 9000 Pro card. Would I need a cable splitter out the back or would I just use the DVI and the 15(?) pin connector? I know I've got the manual at home, but I'm at work and was just wondering...

I don't know...maybe I should just search around before exposing my "nOOb"ies.....

If your moniter does not suport the DVI conection there is a DVI to CRT adapter you can use.

Yeah, I've got the DVI adapter and my monitor will work on it....

So, that's how you would hook two monitors into it?

Hey, just noticed you live not to far from me.

You can also use the TV out (if you have one) and use a TV as your second monitor. This is what I plan on doing for my media server I am planning.

Tech TV was saying that you can't inter-mix brands, but all nVidia works. I was wondering the same thing...

one thing i still don't get is how the different monitors display different things. How do you control the activity on one monitor and not disturb whats going on on the other?

Just look at it and a place to look at differant web pages.

I for one will search for news one monitor and post on the other. It's alot easier than poping up differant web pages.

But if you are playing a game it has to have multiple moniter support or the other screen just sits there waiting till you get done.

there's an issue with the Rage chipset, that much I know. You can't mix any rage card with any other card, including other rage cards, or radeon cards.

I can't speak for 2 radeon cards, or any other configuration, but i've personally experienced that.

I have a question about dual monitors as well. I run two CRT's side by side, and they give a bit of interference across each other (lines going up and down and whatnot).

Is there anything that could be done about this? Some kind of material that could be put inbetween the two to stop them from interfering. Anyone else have this problem?

as for interference, the only time i notice that is when i play with the degauss buttons in IT classes and that causes major interference for like a second.

I jut figured out how this works, i stole my bros monitor and got a DVI-VGA adapter. it's well cool, if i get my job i'll get 2 more monitors and have the cool matrix look going.

one gay thing i notice is when i play a game and take the mouse outside of the screen it clicks onto the other monitor.....anything i can do to stop this?

I use my 9800 pro 128mb with a Matrox Millenium in the PCI slot for 3 monitors. I have also used it with an S3 Virge. When gaming I use the other monitors to hold Ventrillo so I can tell who is talking and IRC.
