| Apex Tech Maniac Supreme | Woot!!!! My 2 FX5900XT's came in today, just finished installing/testing(running the hell out of 'em). They're MSI, both with Hynix 2.8ns RAM and boy do they O/C! Stock the first card would do 426/774 and the second would do 440/801, but they kept getting knocked down to 376 after running intensively for a while. So I flashed them with a modified MSI BIOS to kill the throttling and relax the latencies. Now, the first will do 475/875 stable, and the second 500/925 stable!!!! Hell yeah! Of course being paranoid I've set them both down to 410/750 for a burn in period.... wouldn't do to fry such fine specimens by being over eager. I'm planning on trying out a 5950U BIOS if I can find one that won't kill my VIVO. EDIT: Okay, ran AquaMark3 as follows: 476/801 = 44,109 476/900 = 45,137 476/911 = 45,216 Running AquaMark I found I could not run stably clocked as high as 500/925, so I pulled it down and didn't try for anything higher than 476 on the GPU and nothing higher than 911 on the RAM.... still not a bad O/C at all. EDIT 2: Okay, had to try for a little higher, 485/914 = 45,326. I'm wondering if I could do any better running a 5950U BIOS. I think I'll wait on that 'til I get some better cooling and some RAM sinks.

I'm sure I can get a little more out of it if I add some RAM sinks and give her a while to break-in. I did run AquaMark on more time and got 46,220, I think that's a good score, but I haven't compared it to any others yet. BA where's your card sitting finally? Mem and RAM I mean.... did you manage to get a higher AquaMark score? I haven't tried lowering any setting on it, I want to be honest with myself there. I think perhaps this weekend I'll try a 5950U flash. I have a stock MSI 5950U BIOS, so it might not disable my VIVO (yeah, I use it). Think that's enough time for a burn-in, or do you think a week or two?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I got it to run benchmarks at 475/925 but after extended use I got lockups. I'm sure it's due to heat since the card is completely stock, and since it locked up I threw those scores out. I backed it down to 425/900 for now. |

| Apex Master Tech | CRE, what BIOS did you use? i just picked up 2 5900xt's with the 2.8ns as well, and that thermal throttling is KILLING me! i've got it at 430/783 right now, but any higher and it slams on the brakes when i game. slightly is there any bench that does a continual loop on your graphics? like, folding stable, but aquamark stable...

I'm using a modified MSI FX5900XT BIOS, I'd recommend sticking with a BIOS from your manufacturer or at least with the BIOS from a card with the same make of RAM. It seems Hynix RAM has a vCore of 1.9 vs Samsung's 1.5 so I'm sure you could imagine the issues if the BIOS gives the Hynix less than it needs.... You'll find more specifics here: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread....hreadid=85394/

| Apex Master Tech | thanks for the link. my cards are both MSI with that same 2.8ns hynix, thus why i asked you

Looks like it's not rated for more than 450MHz (900MHz effectively). I guess the 5950U's have 2.0ns RAM which is rated at 500MHz (1000MHz effectively). And just for the thread, 2.5ns RAM is rated for 400MHz or 800MHz effectively. http://www.samsung.com/Products/Semi...de_(Jun03).pdf With the Hynix, I'm sure you can get a decent O/C out of it, I just have no idea how much. Like I said I can push my 2.8 up to 914MHz, 2.2ns speeds. The question is whether their high tolerance yields extend beyond the 2.2ns threshold that much (to let's the 2.0ns or 1.8ns level). How far have you gotten it? EDIT: Dakas, PM me your email address, and I can email you the BIOS I'm using if you'd like.

Damned sweet O/C.... I definitely need to add something for the RAM, it's bare right now. Dakas, check your email. See the URLs earlier in this thread for flashing info. Let us know how it goes.

Umm, I know you do, and from the sounds of it it's a damned good card... Hell, at 1100 for the RAM it's friggin' sweet. EDIT: I really need to get something to monitor the temps on my card. From what I've read it doesn't have monitoring built in, and neither nVidia's drivers nor RivaTuner get any temps from it.

| Apex Tech God | I'm using a thermal probe from my CoolDrive4. And I guess that wasn't worded too well... The throttling got me finally. 60C did it. It should have kicked in before that... But, I want no throttling. If I can watch it on the front of my case, I think I can manage it for myself.

| Apex Tech Maniac Supreme | You may want to look for a 5900U BIOS modded with a higher default clock speed, that in itself seems to kill throttling (or at least push it further out). Well, I've experimented with a couple 5950U BIOSes and the results were weaker than with the modified MSI BIOS I have been using. The most I could get in AquaMark3, at the same clock speeds, were 43K's with the 5950U versus 46K's with the modified 5900XT BIOS, both running at 485/914. So, for those of you using a 5900XT, you may have better luck with a modded BIOS than a stock 5950U BIOS. EDIT: I forgot to mention that with the 5950U BIOS I could readily push beyond 1GHz on the RAM, but the % of gain versus % of O/C was much weaker than with the modded BIOS. BTW, what are some good after-market air cooling solutions for these cards? I think I may try the 5950U BIOSes and some 5900U BIOSes after I add some better cooling, right now everything's stock and I'm sure it's getting damned warm.

| Apex Tech Maniac Supreme | Okay, I don't consider this a double post due to the time difference, if it bothers anyone I apologize. An important thing to remember when flashing is to count and make a note of the keystrokes and approximate time between them when you flash. This will help you do a blind flash if something goes wrong a |
