| Direct Cool Hoe | With all the hoopala on the 9800pro to 9800XT flash, I thought I'd pull their card and see what was up with all the hype... khellandros66 was promptly IM'd and he gave me all the details. WinFlash allows you to do it right from the comfort of Windows, All the drivers from the OMEGA boyz work fine after the flash. I am able to go to 500/420 with zero artifacts and that's cooled with the overtightened maze-4 h20 block and no sinks.. Thanks again khellandros66, great find!! and a rep for ya... | |

| I did a google search and found about 3 or so sites that made mention of 3DMAXX flashing a non-pro to XT. They made mention of their being no thermal diode so the OVERDRIVE feature would not work. I tried accesing their site www.3dmaxx.net but got no joy. Seems its possible but rare/unlikely. | ||

| Chrome, I my theory is that ATi saves money by fabricating R360 and has companies use a 9800Pro Bios, this is cheaper than making two different cores when one core can actually function for both. So technically these 9800Pros with the Samsung RAm and R360 are kinda watered down 9800XTs until ya ulock all of the features on the chip. ~Bob | ||

| Here's the scoop (we went over this when we got the SE) The R360 core powers the XT. However, it was first used in Pro cards, then filtered down to non-Pro and SE cards. They were often outfitted with slower RAM, if the core was a reject, but there were some that were declocked basically to deal with supply/demand-not only is the Pro a cheaper card, but the XT is a niche item-fewer orders mean that they had to do something with the cores. Voila, we have R360 cored 9800 class cards. Great deal if you can find a SE with a 360 core and flash/hardmod it to XT (and I've heard it can be done!) I'm gonna have to go on an evdence gathering spree... | ||

| Slider, In order to know what core you have, you'll have to remove the HSF and clean off the thermal grease and take a look, if you do have a pen and paper hand and write it down, cause the first time I removed the VGA Silencer I thought I saw a R390, but since I went to sleep not long after I remebered an upside down 6 as in R360. ~Bob | ||

| Ok this is what I found on the 9800SE to 9800XT, according to some places you need a R360, RAM that does 730Mhz, and Omega Drivers. Now the you can flash it to open up other optimizations of the R360 core, but in order to open the 4 pipes you need the Omega Drivers. Getting close... [EDIT] found someone who used a XpertVision 9800SE 128MB 256bit card that did a sucessful XT mod [Edit2] and had an R350 core!!!!??? ~Bob | ||
