| CADD-Pro-Hoe | Just got a brand new gainward 5700ultra golden sample ultra/960 tv-dvi. I have tried to instal it on two machines and it just wont post. I tried it at work in one of the dells we have for bench testing and it posted fine. took it home again, cleared CMOS and made sure IRQ assignments were left on automatic. turned off agp8x and fast write, and tried again, all to no avail. could this be a power supply related problem? Mine is only 350 and it's junk, but the other machine i tried it in upstairs (home) is like 400 or 450 but it's also a cheapo. I'm not sure what the dell at work had, it couldn't be overly impressive though. twas a very light duty pc. any ideas?

that's odd jdogg, but no it' s not on a riser. in fact, i tried starting up with a pci card in as well, and got the system to POST, but then in the device manager it recognizes the 5700 but says it's code 10 and cannot start. whatever that means code ten seems to have any number of meanings

no bios, but i can hear the system doing it's thing like normal, you know how you know your system sounds, your hd and so-on. I can hear it go through it's motions, and the fan on the vid card is going, but that's it. the monitor never kicks on.

what happens if you have bad spelling and grammar? j/k nah i have not oc'd it yet. I havn't even gotten it to start. But yeah too high on the OC will do all sorts of things, artifacts in the vid is the first sign of stress i think. -don

LOL it was a Geforce 2 ultra a very healthy *smirk* 250mhz clock speed. Believe it or not that baby was actually pretty rad, i could run pain killer at high detail levels and have minor slowdowns, but i digress. I'm going to flash the bios right now, i havn't updated since I got it, but the newest revision isn't much newer than my purchase date. i dont think it's psu because when i power it up I am getting the fan running, and if I have a pci card in, the xp system automatically recognizes that it's an fx5700 ultra, it installs it's default driver, and then gives me the code 10. "device cannot start" i'll post after flash, if i have a rig after flashing =-)

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Check out Guru3D's site and look for driver destroyer. If XP is recognizing the card but can't start it, that hints at a software problem. Uninstall the card in device manager, use driver destroyer to get rid of all traces, then boot with the card in. Oh yeah, will it boot in safe mode? |

hehe well, if i can't get it to post, then i can't tell it to boot in safe mode can i? i flashed the bios and i formatted the HD and i'm still getting nothing. I got some parts from a rad store today so i'll put together my older schooler rig and try that, maybe i'll figure something out. thanks for your help so far BA. -dc is outie

| Banned | Problems persisting even after a format point to either bad BIOS settings or a poorly powered/possibly damaged card. I'm willing to bet it is a BIOS issue if the hell...erm...dell, ran it fine. Try disabling fastwrites, setting aperture to 32MB, ensuring Video Shadowing & Cacheing is disabled, and running AGP 4x. Possibly the AGP is at higher than the stock 66MHz? |

awesome tek i shall give it a shot, but i do have a dumb arse question, i have looked in the bios for a place to set the agp to 4x, but all i've found is the ability to disable 8x...i havn't seen anything else tho, but it' s likely i'm just missing something simple...as usual. oh yeah, i have a 350 psu and i stripped it down to only the mobo and the vid card, to try and get it to post, thats what makes me think it's a bios issue. i'll try it tek, thanks A TON for you and BA! -don

| CADD-Pro-Hoe | THANK YOU GUYS both you Tek and BA got me going the right direction, it looks as tho it was a combo of bios and driver issues, i did a fresh install and tweaked bios and voila!! she's humming along nicely, i'm gonna install thief DS and test er out!!!! -don
