Default Video card question...

Alright, my friend is building his brother a sweet system for gaming, but we have a question about the new video cards. Through all the benchmarks that show the x800pro and XT to be almost twice as fast as the 9800XT are they using regular AGP8X cards or the new PCI Express? Also, exactly how much of a difference is there between AGP8X and PCI Express, from what i know PCI Express is like AGP16X+. Just wondering guys, any help you can give would be great!

Much like the move from AGP4x to AGP8x, where I experienced actual performance loss in games, the performance increase will probably be minimal for now.

However once games that actually fill up 256 or 512 VRAM, we will start to see better performance from the higher interface bandwidth native to PCI express, no doubt.

And yes, all the benchmarks are on the AGP8x cards for now.

Negative for the Quadro beting better than normal. If your using it for a specific purpose such as CAD/CAM then yes - for general use and gaming no.

My suggestion is to take advangtage of the release of the new X800 by purchasing a 9800XT - newer technology usually causes a price drop in the slightly older technology........watch prices and pick up an awesome deal. It never pays to be an early adopter. If you go this route I see buggy hardware and drivers in your future.
