From reading the reviews it seems people have been able to softmod this. Are of these cards from newegg using the samsung memory? I don't even have enough money for this card ATM but I'll save up and hopefully it wont be sold out.

EDIT: wait is it samsung memory im looking for?

the one that i bought had bought was the sapphire 128bit version with the L memory and infenion chips. I used the omega soft mod for it and pulled a 19k+ on my big intel rig. with a 140 ( at the time) card....

I thought you needed 256-bit ?

I currently have a 9800se 128-bit that I am borrowing from a friend but it is not L shaped =/

look at the edited post above....

nope i bought a 128bit version. what the softmod does it enable the other 4 piplines doubling the bandwidth to 256bit. if you softmod a 256 card you will have what ammounts to a very fast 9500 pro....

I asked the same question yesterday (http://forums.pcapex.com/showthread.php?t=16984). According to mot19 "[I'm] screwed; [I] had to get the 256bit SE". With all due respect, I hope mot19 is entirely wrong. I'm going to follow's chrome's advice on this one. I've already ordered the Sapphire 9800se OEM that chrome linked to above.

I will say that not all will soft mod, you may get artifacts and what not because the other 4 pipes are disabled for a reason. it is going to be luck of the draw. i had good luck with mine, and maybe you will too, but just dont be disapointed if it dosent work, even if it dosent it is still a hella-fast card for under 140 bucks US.

I guess if you are willing to spend like 160 for a 9800se to softmod you might as well save up a bit more for a 9800pro huh
